The boards have been pretty quiet lately, so I figure I will ask and maybe get a debate going?

All tweleve of my character builds had been rocking IS Silver Nugget and 1 specialized IS (think Ameythst Ovid or Quicksilver Cube) plus the following three rare IS's.
Faceted Amber
Beryl Prism
Iridescent Spindle
With the IS Gold Nugget come out next year I need to replace one of the rares.

I think the Iridescent Spindle seems like an obvious choice because it has been forever since we needed to use it. I think Faceted Amber is perhaps the one that comes up most often as +1 to saves usually isn't going to make or break us on the 1 saving throw we seem to make each dungeon, while we are taking multiple spell/range damage each dungeon. That said my group doesn't know tokens. So for them to remember that they are minus 2 to spell damage is hard for them to keep track of in the middle of combat. The +1 to saves is a good they never have to worry about it kind of thing. However if we ever could use the Iridescent Spindle I am certainly likely to remember everyone has it.

I do think the Spindle is going to be the first to go, but I could easily be convinced otherwise.

The follow-up is of course in 2 years which IS do I replace or keep?

Assuming your group is like most, there is more than enough HP and healing flying around to allow the Faceted Amber to go away.

I like the iridescent spindle more than faceted amber.

I agree that the saves is the easiest for the group to not forget (on the party card and all) so I would keep that one in 2 years.

I personally like the +1 save better than the other 2
Every 1 your save goes up typically is a 5% less likely to fail the save.
On my personal build it will be the last to go of my rares.
In fact with gold nugget on my build, ISBP is the last rare on my Ioun Stone slots going forward.

The other thing is the +saves really add up with the stuff that has came out and is coming out soon.

ISTC +2 saves
ISBP +1 saves
Bead of the lucky traveler +2 saves
That’s a easy +5 across the board

I say go with the saves

i don’t know how the changes to the LoDS and Eldritch set are going to affect us. per them heals and hp were precious. plus we are bad at puzzles sometimes. i have dropped 300 to 450 hp consumables in 1 room once or twice.

Everyone in our group has those same three rare ISs. The Iridescent Spindle and Faceted Amber are pretty wasted for us though, we've almost never used them. Once we get all three TE ISs, we'll probably drop the Faceted Amber, because SOMEDAY those Iridescent Spindles are going to come in handy again. :)

Wow that's some serious healing!

For me Iridescent Spindle would be the first to go.

After that it is a toss up

I agree 5% increase on likely hood on passing a save is nice to have. If you felt of going a different way this coming year the bead will be washing that deficit and giving you a +1 when things resolve. I guess what is your + to saves? When is there diminishing returns on adding on more saves?

a wrong answer or mistake on night are hitting everyone for 15 is 150. do it a couple times 300. a third and you hit your 450.

I outfit half my group and those players are much like others discussed here - they never remember to take into account modifiers. So I would agree on dropping Faceted Amber first then followed by Iridescent Spindle. I think the Spindle might come into play again as we enter into to Nether Realms next year

So your saying I should get you a shirt that says "need help solving the puzzel? I'm proficient in push damage!" ?

only sometimes. we would rather work at a puzzle and take damage than just take push damage and give up even if it would be less damage.

A conditional bonus you forget you have is the same as no bonus at all. You can safely delete every conditional token, awesome as they may be, from your casual players’ builds, unless you’re going to babysit everyone to remind them what they have.
