Hedgehogs vs True Grind: yes, we really are that crazy!

BeLinda has all 10 tickets, so payments should go to her ( details here ), but I'm coordinating sign-ups; post here with class preferences if you'd like to join!

Order of the Hedgehog precepts:

• win as many combats as possible using ONLY Retribution damage (no attacking)
• mercilessly attack any foes too cowardly to engage us in melee
• must consent to combat-related spoilers
• Nightmare difficulty (plan is to stick with this even though it's Grind)

IMPORTANT: be sure to read the Plane of Fire rules for True Grind at Gamehole Con 2024 (linked from truedungeon.com/gamehole-con ) while preparing your build!

In particular, new top priorities include:

• 20+ Fire DR (hedgehog combats typically last a LOT of rounds, we don't want to be burning HP every round from the heat)
• tokendb.com/token/ioun-stone-iridescent-spindle/ ("risk of irreversible death for those races that require said oxygen")
• Greater Alchemist Pouch / Alchemist Pouch / Alchemist Purse if possible (I have a feeling we'll be drinking a lot of potions)

and heavy armor classes should note that there is no point in wearing Plate of the Forge since it deals Fire retribution.

After that, try to build for high RD , low AC (12 is usually good), and at least some melee DR as usual.

Remember you must actually take at least 1 point of melee damage per hit in order to inflict RD (so too much melee DR is counterproductive), but if you get hit 10 or 15 times then each point of melee DR you equip is worth 10 or 15 hp!

Here are tokens typically worth considering for a hedgehog build... but with the other competing requirements some things will have to go, and that's okay!
Ear: Earcuff of Ramparts
Neck: Amulet of Thorns
Torso: Plate of the Forge Shark Tooth Armor or Scorpion Chitin Armor or Death Knight set
Hands: Berserker Gloves
Back: Cloak of Retribution or Cloak of the Cacti
Waist: Belt of Thorns or Belt of Retribution
Shins: Greaves of the Stalwart
Charm: Charm of Thorny Barbs
Charm: Charm of Thorns
Charm: Charm of Barbs
Underling: Underling Cleric

Note that hedgehogs typically do not equip Charms of Awakened Synergy because we need that slot for other things.

Let the group know if you need to borrow tokens! (advance planning is important here, since we need to physically have the tokens with us)

In addition to our usual build goals, I have a feeling we will run short of healing spells, so folks may also want to consider equipping things that boost potion healing, e.g.
