There are so many smart people here, I am humbled. I think it's out of our hands now. I'm ready to refocus on TD.

As I said, people in polls support affirmative action when it is used to redress past racism.

And "partial birth abortion" may be "apt," but it is not a medical term, it is a political scare term.

And finally, polls and public opinion can be irrelevant - that's why we have a court system to consider people's constitutional rights. How much longer would "separate but equal" have lasted in some southern states if it hadn't been for Brown v. Board of Ed.?

Hey, you started the argument that Pelosi was on the side of general consensus, implying that it was a good judge of whether she's a frakking dingbat. But then again, that sort of doubletalk is more or less what I'd expect anyway. Polls only matter until they don't support what you want them to support and then it's all about judicial review. Please.

I didn't start the argument - I started this thread just to encourage people to vote. I am only responding to your ignorant statements.

Besides, I never said polls only matter if they support what I support. Polls matter in giving a picture of what people want. Honestly, the fact that they can be manipulated by either side to support their position makes them a faulty basis for an argument. That's why we have courts to interpret the law and the Constitution to make sure people's right are protected regardless of majority opinion. The fact that courts are sometimes wrong (such as the Plessy case) indicates the mores of the time period.

Frakkin dingbat - ah, namecalling. Truly the last refuge of those who know they are wrong.

Maybe you're experiencing an acute case of senility, but you did too start the arguement about public consensus and Pelosi. Hell, the comment was only a few back so I'm not quite sure how you could have forgotten about it so soon. Maybe it's time for a ginkgo boost or something?

Of course, that's simply a case of memory loss which can be forgiven. The ridiculous sophistry of making the initial argument about what americans supposedly believe and how Pelosi agrees with them and then spewing the crap about poll skewing really takes the cake. I've seen plenty of people talk out both sides of their head, but they usually allow for some more time in between so people don't gape at the hypocrisy.

Sorry Gary but that exchange was priceless. I actually DID laugh out loud (and I don't often enough). It will keep me here forever. Henwy, need a job?

I respect your views and your right to them, Brian. I just happen to disagree.

OK, we'll agree to disagree on the political stuff, and agree to agree on the need for more tokens!

Tokens are good and we can use more. Let's also pay attention to how to make these dungeons bigger, more complex, more lifelike etc. and the tokens will follow.
Ya, like we're going back to the Clinton administration. Remember, that sort of moderate liberal view of the DLC is _not_ what Obama has run upon. His support is the whacky left who generally consider the DLC to be sellouts. Look at the primary with Hillary. So arguing this is going to be like a Clinton administration is ridiculous bullshit.

I actually think that Obama will move dramatically to the center on many issues. I think he is a very smart politician and he knows the mood of the country. I don't think he will make the same mistake that Clinton and the Democrats did in '93-'94 by over-reaching on their agenda (i.e., National Healthcare) which resulted in the Republican take over of Congress in '94.

So, I am hopeful that Obama will spend his political capital well and sparsely -- and as a result he will govern well and to the center. I am sure he will have to give some manna to the left-wing, but I think with the cooperation of the MSM he will be able to hold them at bay with minimal offerings. Look how well he side-stepped the flip-flop on public financing of his campaign and about-face on telecom immunity.

My biggest worry is his judicial appointments. The Filibuster will mitigate this somewhat, but much depends on how much unity the 40-43 Republican senators will share. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well...it appears that this prediction is coming true -- thank goodness. So far he is appointing centrist Washington-insiders, I am glad his "change" slogan was just that -- and that the media is letting it slide. So far, I am pretty happy with what I am seeing with Obama's appointments and methodology.

fe7.story.media.ac4.yahoo.com/news/us/story/cq/20081124/pl_cq_politics/politics2990448

We have interesting days ahead my friends...and it appears that we might actually benefit from the leadership in Washington for a change. I am hopeful!
