TOPIC: Offers coming in

<br />Congratulations for taking responsibility for yourself, and a heartfelt good luck to you, and to everyone who takes responsibility for themselves and doesn't look to me (and other working people) to pay their way.<br />

<br /><br />Not a problem.  That's been my outlook on bankruptcy too.  That is, I don't like people to intentionally abuse the system.  I alwas saw this as driving up retail prices to make up for the losses.  However, that may be an incorrect view, as it's the  banks who profit or lose due to credit cards - not the vendors whose product or service was purchased.  In any case, when you call a bank that is charging you 17% and ask for a reasonable 8% (I have 4% and lower "life of the loan" cards) to possibly avoid bankruptcy, and the bank tells you that their "hardship" cases start at 12% and go up from there, it leaves one with a bitter taste for the bank as you know they are greedy liars.<br /><br />It seems almost unbelievable that we would have found ourselves in this (bankruptcy) situation though.  Cards maxed and, even when I reduced the budget to BELOW the bare necesities (such as only oil changes for the cars; no new tires or other scheduled maintenance, let alone not putting aside money to fix anything that breaks), we were still spending $500 per month more than we could afford.  When I saw that, I called a lawyer as I saw no other way out at that point.<br /><br />Now, we may be able to dig our way our ourselves.<br /><br /><br />JKW<br />

Such a situation should not happen in this country. It truly is a sad state of affairs. I have no sympathy for Wall street or the banks. They are getting less punishment than they deserve and many of them will avoid it altogether and get off scot free. Unfortunately, the rest of us are having to take some harm along with them.

The economy is looking better in this neck of the woods. Let's hope it's like that everywhere. After all, it was a crisis of confidence more than substance anyway.

Looks like I made a good career decision - deciding not to look too hard within EDS for continued employement.  Did you guys hear the GM news?  While it's too huge of a topic to discuss in detail here, I'm (right now) very much in favor of letting GM fail into ruin.  Yes, unfortunately, if such a company goes out of business, it will leave a lot of other, smaller, companies bankrupt and thousands of individuals without jobs.... however, perhaps it would send a few messages to the US government...such as 1) sending jobs overseas has not helped the average citizens (only those whom are already wealthy); 2) we cannot afford to let unions get out of control.<br /><br />I'm sure there are other points (such as corporate greed of 55 milion dollar severance packages for a CEO will not be tolerated), but the above list is a start.<br /><br />Gary - hope the interview went well (or goes well).<br /><br />JKW

I'm glad GM is dying. We should have just shipped manufacturing jobs overseas ages ago. It's just like how toyota doesn't build all of their damn cars in Japan. It'd be beyond stupid to do so. Besides, I'm always in for some union busting. I'd love to see the UAW go down the drain.
