40 casts! Wow, now that is impressive!

I mix one mold at a time...it just works better for me. I tried a double mix and the stuff really sets up quick! Plus I really like having an easier time scraping the top layer off.

Looks good. I just about finished my first diorama for my grandkids. The idea is that they design, help mold, and paint. I have to finish a water feature maybe tonight and it will be done. I may post pictures when I get home. My granddaughter had a great time helping and painting. I just used plaster of paris on this one, but will be experimenting with some different mediums.

Molds schmolds. Sculpt everything by hand like I do.
It's messier and more fun (and takes forever).

I think it is fair to say HIRST ARTS MOLDS are the best things out there.

I would suggest you buy them, as they are extremely precise and easy to use.

http://hirstarts.com/molds/molds.html

I almost have the Wizards Tower Mold #50 completed...but there is still the painting part...

Yes it is - I think it is on my future buy list.

I think they stressed using some other type of medium on that mold however - due to the fence gate pieces...

oh - Merlin's Magic (plaster) is AWESOME - totally easy to work with - minimal air bubbles (even for this rookie) and it cleans up really easy.

OK here are a few shots of the Wizard Tower from Mold #50 - it is pretty much a one room abode with a tower attached...pretty nice for a roadside traveller house or some other type of small dwelling.

The tower looks awesome, Gary! I did see some rubber mold making compound at the craft store today. They were mainly advertising it to make molds of, say, your kid's hand, but they did show it being used on other small objects. So, if you had an existing piece that you wanted to make a mold of, it would work well. I don't think it would work as well for creating your own molds from scratch unless you are a really talented sculpter, though.

Right - the HIRST stuff is like a silicon/rubber material that has been expertly poured over/around the original casting pieces.

I don't think I could sculpt even close to the level of detail as these molds!

I'm curious to see how long they last.
