Thanks for those hot tips...

I'm mainly interested in this as a creative outlet...

The Monster Mud project I was planning scrapped and became instead a terrain project, and so far that particular project is not too exciting.

I saw the molds and remembered Shaman picking some up and ranting about them - thought it was cool then and thought I would give it a try.

Sounds like I need to hit up a few Mavens.

Thanks again,
G

oh yes PAM was definately a known strategy for me...

That would be cool! Thanks.

I did post over on the GenCon Forums...but not sure if it will be noticed by the "best" of sources.

Any help is appreciated.

I think what I might try to do in the next couple of days is make my own mold using a sculpty type material - and then see what luck I have with DJC in the sculpty mold I make my-self.

Again what I am really looking for are do's and dont's regarding the Hirst molds...

I am still reading things on the internet, but have not run across DJC or much detail to help me decide what to use as the medium.

Thanks again.
G

Gary,

Go over to the hirstarts.com and read through his various how to's, do's and don'ts pages, etc. Also, post on the forums there and maybe even check out the chat if anyone's in it. Very friendly and helpful people. Lots of info on stuff you can use, drying times, etc etc...

Hee hee...another addict in the making.

Thanks Roomie!

Ya know the one thing that is missing in my start-up research...can Drywall Joint Compound be used in a Hirst Mold?

I guess one of these days I will have to ask someone at Hirst.

Gary,

In responce to the dry wall question - I don't think so. After it dries it flakes real bad and does not take abuse well. However, If you were to find some additive that would harden it, It might work.

Finally did some mold experimentation the other day...

Well Monster mud is NOT a good medium - it needs way too much air to dry. I can see MM being good for surface coating, but not for use in Molds...

More as I get free time!

Sorry I didn't post. I found pretty much the same result a week or so ago. Concrete patch is not very good either.

Wouldn't the stuff that crumbles out of the mold be good for creating ruins though? Then you could spray it with a flat overcoat or something...
Or does it crumble and flake too much to even do that?

um - like I said it needs too much air to dry...so it comes out goopy! Only the surface exposed to the air really dries well.

i talked to someone about this. they asked if you could put it in the oven on a cookie sheet. it would obviously need to be at low heat. just an idea.
