TOPIC: What did you watch?
Stardust
but the best part of the movie (and as far as I'm concerned they stole the entire show) were the ghosts, but sadly they had very little air time.

I agree. The ghosts were hilarious. I thought they could have had a lot more screen time as well.

Just finished the WORST game of football ever...

How can we have instant replay and SUPERBOWL REFs screw up calls like they did.

I tell ya - I'm switching to Hockey as soon as the season starts!

The screw up wasn't the call it was the fact that he blew the whistle. Cris Collinsworth was explaining the rule on NBC. If Cutler had been running instead of passing it would have been ruled a fumble and the Chargers would have been allowed to recover and advance the ball.

Kim

WRONG - it was a FUMBLE...

The problem was the REF - made a human mistake and ruled that his arm was in motion and as such - the REF thought it was an incomplete pass...

What should have happened was the REF should have waited until the play was over - THEN blown the whistle...he could have still ruled it was incomplete - then gone to the replay to see if he made the right call - as it was CLEARLY a scoring situation or the denial of a scoring situation.

Gary, you are absolutely right about that game. I'm not a SDC fan, but Hochuli blew the call big time - he was in no position to make the call, but blew the whistle anyway. Add that to the broken replay machine earlier in the game, and the officials were responsible for Denver winning that game.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. :puke:

What a dull, boring, lame, uninspiring, vapid, insipid, and craptacular vat of steaming, runny, diarrhetic dragon dung (and we're talking a full grown ancient wyrm and not some youngster!). It was only through sheer will power (and being distracted by Campaign Cartographer 3) that I didn't turn the thing off. It is 85 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Nor will I ever get back the $4.99 that I spent on the movie. Ugh. Not often do I get rid of DVD's that I purchase (the only one that was not an accidental duplicate was The Transporter), but I'm seriously considering getting rid of this piecd of crap.

I would say this about San Diego or any other team who was in the same position, but a team has to put themselves in a position that they score enough points to not bring errant rulings by officials into play. Hochuli was in a position to make the call. He was directly behind Cutler. Did he make the wrong call? Yes he did, but he had no way to reverse it according to the rule.

Kim

Being behind the QB is the WORST position to rule on the empty hand Kim.

AND in both cases the flub ups lead to 15 DENVER points...so even SD putting themselves in a position to score is hard to beat that.

AND SD only lost by 1...

I know SD will write a letter to the league and it won't do much good - but I suspect the empty hand VS incomplete pass will NOT be something that is blown dead from behind the QB in future games...at least I hope it isn't.

Well it looks like it WAS serious enough...

LEAGUE TO REVIEW FUMBLE RULES

NEW YORK (AP)—The NFL will look into the inadvertent whistle rule that required officials to give the ball back to Denver in the final seconds of Sunday’s game with San Diego.

League spokesman Greg Aiello said the NFL competition committee will look into the rule in the offseason, perhaps changing it as it did the “down by contact” rule.

The play occurred with the Broncos at the Chargers 1-yard-line in the final minute. Denver quarterback Jay Cutler dropped back to pass, the ball slipped out of his hands, bounced off the grass and into the arms of San Diego linebacker Tim Dobbins.

Referee Ed Hochuli ruled it an incomplete pass. Replay ruled it a fumble, but it was spotted at the 10-yard line, where the ball hit the ground, and given to Denver because the rules did not permit possession to be awarded to San Diego because the whistle had blown.

Denver went on to score, convert a 2-point conversion and win 39-38.

Until March 2007, down by contact plays were not reviewable. That rule was changed so that they were reviewable, and if a fumble occurred even after the whistle blew, the team recovering it got possession.

“Officials are held accountable for their calls. They are graded on every play of every game,” Aiello said Monday. “Ed has been an outstanding official for many years, but he will be marked down for this call. Under our evaluation system, an official’s grades impact his status for potentially working the playoffs and ultimately whether or not he is retrained.”
I'm going to be curious to see if Norv Turner is going to be fined for his comments post game regarding the call. I'm not saying he's wrong, but the league has been pretty strict in the past regarding what coaches can say regarding officiating.

Kim
