I just got finished watching Archer: Fugitive From the Empire.

Anyone here ever seen it? It was a pilot for a TV show (that never materialized) back in 1981, and it was obvious that they were trying to cash in on the D&D craze of the 80's. It was an interesting story, but it was very cheesey. Still, it is one of my guilty pleasures that I love to watch every couple of years.

In fact, here are some of my 1980's fantasy guilty pleasures:

Hawk the Slayer
Archer: Fugitive From the Empire
Krull
Beastmaster
Mazes and Monsters
The Dragonslayer
Red Sonja

And, of course, there are a couple of fantasy movies from the 1980's that are just all around great movies, and the two at the top of my list are The Princess Bride and Conan the Barbarian.
Finally watched Beowolf. It was okay.
I know what you mean.

It was much better in 3D.
I agree. It was the only reason I stayed awake during it.

I, of course, did not got to see it in 3D, and maybe that was the problem. I had heard it was pretty good and was disappointed after finally seeing it.
Don't go see it again just to check it out in 3D. Save your money. It didn't make it that much better just a little more interesting.

Raven and I used to specifically watch B,C and D rated movies for fun back in our University days and I think we ended up classifying it a G movie it was so bad. It was fun to watch with a large group because we could make fun of the characters. The one main thing I remember was that he had a bigger chest than she did! Still I do not think I will watch it again so go ahead and have it as a guilty pleasure. =D

You should watch it again, just so you can be reminded at how truly bad it is. But, it also has some cool ideas, like the river of acid and the lizard men who jump out of the ground!

With the exception of Archer and Mazes and Monsters I have them all on DVD.

Next time anyone here watches Mazes and Monsters pay attention when everyone winds up in New York City, specifically at the World Trade Center. Keep an eye out for the lady with the red hat. She is in several scenes, and it is absolutely hilarious because you can tell that she is an incredibly over zealous extra!

Didn't I just read something somewhere about them remaking Red Sonja?

A remake of Red Sonja will be a giant vat of steaming, runny, diarrhetic dragon dung. The original is great because it has great camp value, and I don't think it would be possible to find a better pairing than Ernie Reyes, Jr. and Paul L. Smith as Prince Tarn and Falkon.

To me it looks like they are going to turn Red Sonja into something between Xena meets Charlies Angels meets Kill Bill. I imagine a lot of John Woo style fighting scenes and a lot of crappy Tarantino special effects that will be worse than the original Red Sonja special effects.

Here's a glimpse of the teaser posters:
latemag.com/red-sonja-remake-teaser-posters
