Speaking of haunted tuberculosis (sp) sanitariums....

We found out a few interesting things about the area we live in.

1) The Maybury State park near us was formerly the 850-acre Maybury Sanitarium. I don't remember the details my wife was told. Huge number of deaths during epidemics, like tuberculosis and enfluenza. Just a few years back, perhaps in 2001 or 2002 I think, the state park barn burned down, killing nearly fiften animals that were trapped inside. Lots of deaths, human and animal, at this location.

2) The hospital where my mother in law works, and where my wife started work this week, has a basement level that goes unused. Apparently, it was the childrens ward during enfulenza epidemics (I think tuberculosis too, but I don't recall all the details). Many children died there. The employees used to throw their parties down there, but after several chilling incidents of seeing and hearing the spirits of children (and I think objects being moved), the staff no longer uses the basement. I think my wife was shown it on a tour, but that's it. I think people have reported the large drop in temperature when the voices are heard.

Added: I forgot to mention this earlier, but pictures taken during the parties the staff held in the basement ended up having many glowing orbs in them. I think she said the count was upwards of fifteen "orbs."

My wife said she sees orbs, usually 2-3, on the video monitors we use to watch our children. Well, okay, we don't watch Samantha that way any more, but we still have a video monitor for Caiden. I haven't caught the orbs on screen, but it's certainly possible. Chris said the orbs just seem to move about the room, circling the children.

Another thing is something my wife experienced as a child.
She had a friend who lived in a house haunted by the spirit of a little girl. The parents who bought the home hadn't been told the history of the house until years after they had moved in. I'm not sure my wife has all the details, but basically the little girl was murdered in her home. My wife's childhood friend would often find things like her hair brush and bouncy ball missing - only to find them in another room (I think it was the basement, or they disappeared from the basement back to what used to be the little girl's bedroom). This happened often and for at least as long as the family my wife knew lived in the home. I believe my wife was at the house on several occasions when items were moved about. I think they also heard the girl singing from time to time.

Sorry - my memory isn't the greatest. I don't recall everything I'm told verbatim.

Exercising personal power?
Well, ask me about it some time. This is already too long.

Weird thing that happened to me #1:
When my mom and I came back from my dad's funeral, his picture, out of a wall of pictures in the master bedroom, was face down in the middle of the room.

Weird thing #2:
While sleeping on the couch one night at the home of old friend I hadn't seen in years, I saw the tail of his cat walking by. Unusual tail - it was bent. Due to the angle I was laying at, I couldn't see anything else. Next day I ask where his cat was, and of course it had died a few months before. It had a broken tail.

Weird thing #3:
In college, three of us rented a house. There were always footsteps, walking from the upstairs front bedroom, to the bathroom, and back again. We would sit in the downstairs living room and listen very carefully. We used to run upstairs, but of course there was nothing there. I remember listening to this (it happened every day) trying to think of what else could be making that noise, and not coming up with anything. Supposedly the lights in the basement always turned on by themselves, but I have a feeling that was our drunken roommate.

OK, I'll chime in....waytoomuchcoffee's post made me think of another "strange" thing.........

Jeff and I set our wedding date and unbeknownst to us, it WOULD have been my paternal grandparents 75th wedding anniversary. When I was a kid, that grandma and I would pick daisys from her flower gardens and to the "he loves me....he loves me not" thing while plucking the petals off. Anyway, when Jeff and I arrived back home after the wedding, there were DAISYS growing in front of our trailer. They were right in front, growing in the dirt that covered the hitch of the trailer. The really strange thing is, I had planted stuff (not daisys) in there on several occasions, and nothing would grow.

Nothing ever grew there again, either............

dum da dummmmmmmmmmm

Waverly Hills was a good episode of Ghost Hunters and they caught some freaky stuff on camera. Looking forward to seeing it again.

I was at a reception being held in a dorm at Mt. Holyoke College. Supposedly a woman had killed herself in the dorm. At one point, I was talking to someone, standing with my back to the wall, about two feet from the wall. I definitely felt someone walking past behind me, but when I turned to see who it was, there was no one there!
I grew up in a haunted house.

Couple of incidents that spring to mind...

When I was a toddler I was absolutely frightened of the basement. So much so that I would refuse to go into it. There were stairs that led up from the basement to the backyard and underneath them was just dirt. It was were I always pictured a man.

I had a dream one night where I was running from my brother who had turned into a werewolf and woke up when he bite the back of my neck. I felt that bite for a good 5 minutes or so. It was awful I still remember it. I had a few other dreams like that. To this day I can not sleep with my neck exposed.

The one Sunday that my mom broke her leg she said she felt like someone pushed her off the front porch.

There are other things like not being able to put my feet down by my bed because something would grab them or as a teenager I had to listen to music all night just to sleep.

I haven't been in that house for years and I no longer require music to sleep by (in fact its the opposite). I can let my arm hang out over the side of my bed, etc...

I know that house was haunted but you know what I also know a lot of people won't believe me when I tell them.

Lady Myke

As for psychics, I do believe there is something out there but I don't know what.
What a strange coincidence... a bunch of people at work today were talking about ghosts and hauntings they have witnessed (ok, probably the Halloween connection).

One of them even got pictures of a ghostly shape staring at him around the corner at an old house. Nobody else there with him saw it, even though the camera picked it up...

When I'm alone, I still sleep with the lights on every night. I can't let anything (other than my head) stick out from the blankets.
I also won't glance at a mirror when it's dark out - I'll only look at one if I have to, and then I just look at me - nothing else.

I go to Transylvania University, and yes you're all welcome to make the vampire jokes since it's almost Halloween =)
The school has been around for over 250 years so we have a lot of campus ghost stories, most of which are true. The best one though, is the ghost that lives in my dorm. People say that she shows up every now and then wearing the yellow dress that she was supposedly wearing when she hung herself, down the hall from the room I live in. She also likes to play pranks on people by typing on computers and knocking on doors. One of my sisters said that she saw her ghost a couple years ago and that she just kinda waved and then disappeared.

i think it would be cruel and funny at the same time to create some extra hauntings at a place that is known to be haunted if you have friends that live in a supposed haunted house. woo would that be a kick in the pants.

Okay - something freaky that happened to me - one Sunday we found a Sunday Paper on our driveway - we weren't subscribed to it, and there isn't a house close enough to us for the paperboy to have accidently thrown it in our driveway instead of someone else's. We didn't think anything about it and just brought it in and put it on the coffee table. The next day we got a call from a relative telling us my grandfather had died and the funeral was in a couple of days. Yep - you guessed it - his obit was in the paper. We had never gotten a sunday paper before nor have we gotten another since.

That's both sad and cool at the same time.
