George,
What position does your son play?

Kim

It is sad, my son SHOULD be playing tight end (180 lbs, 6 foot tall in 8th grade, 3rd best 40 time on the team). But the team had no one capable of playing guard so he is playing guard. On Defense he is the defensive end, so I am hoping for 1 sack a game from him.

George

Yea, shoulda been an RPG. Pure genius. When I was much younger we did a version of the assassins game (if you went to college and were a geek u probably played it)with a highlander motif instead, using wooden bokens. Good times...and unbelievably nobody actually got hurt...too bad.

Well, Wizards started heavily pressuring the "Living" campaigns (like Living Greyhawk) to use more current rules and supplements to sell books. I wouldn't expect them to want to see a 3.5 True Dungeon at the same time they are introducing 4e stuff at Gencon, but who knows. If I was Wizards, I would want to see True Dungeon introduce new classes and races, for example.

A few rules changes between 3.5 and 4 below. Some may affect tokens and more probably characters.

Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger still in. Sorcerer in but different. "Very good chance" Monks are in. Clerics seem to have been taken out to introduce a new healing system - you won't need a dedicated healer now, as all classes can heal somewhat.

New class: Warlord.

Fighters will specialize in a particular type of weapon (such as axe or sword) once they reach a certain level.

Backstab still in.

Just kidding about Clerics Gary. They are still in.

All "core" classes might not be in new Player's Guide. Only confirmed ones in the Player's Guide are Fighter, Rogue, Cleric, and Wizard.

Getting rid of a lot of the old Vancian magic system (spell slots) - wizards won't ever completely run out of spells now. ""a wizard who casts all his memorized per day spells should be at about 80% of power."

"The "Christmas tree" effect, whereby characters are loaded down with magic items, buff spells and other magical effects was one of the designers' goals to remove". Hard to say where this puts gear slots. I would expect it to be simplified.

Races: Warforged, Tiefling, and Eladrin in. Gnomes are heavily hinted to be gone, or at least not a core race. While Drow are not confirmed, they are so popular, and the first Campaign book to be released (at Gencon, hint hint) is for Forgotten Realms.

Save or die saving throws are gone. "We do not want characters dying from a single failed die roll...." In Star Wars Saga (which is where a lot of 4e is coming from), saving throws are now "Defenses", but still have Fort, Reflex and Will. So even though the system changes, tokens for saving throws should be alright.

It is still a d20 game, so +1 swords should still be relevant. There is still an "Armor Class", so our shiny armor tokens should still be OK too.

One thing Wizards is really de-emphasizing is Greyhawk. For example, Living Greyhawk is being eliminated next year, to be replaced by Living Forgotten Realms. I assume that shouldn't be a problem for TD, as there is a 3-year Greyhawk arc, but I don't really trust Wizards at this point.

Well, we are not a true D&D clone. More like a second cousin. I doubt we'll have to change very much.
we are not employed by wizards, so Jeff can do as he wishes. I'm sure they give a little money and give the rights to use there stuff as a basis, but other than that I believe we are not really connected. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Well if you are completely independent you can do whatever. The parts you use from 3.5 are open source, and the core 4e rules will be open as well. However I am just saying that if you get any money I wouldn't be surprised if Wizards put conditions on it (use 4e, use some new races/classes, put in a Drow and name him Drizzt, etc.)

Oh, the Bard is mysteriously absent from class discussions too.

This year's module had to be approved by Wizards, so they do get some say-so in the whole thing. But I doubt they would FORCE us to use 4.0 rules since some stuff is still taken from 1st edition.

Well, I expect you had to get it approved because you are using a Wizard's campaign setting (Greyhawk).

There really isn't much difference as far as the amount of rules TD uses anyway. No one will notice if you did switch to 4e. Except if new races or classes are put in.
