OK, so since this is the reading thread, I'll ask this here. Does anyone have a Kindle (from Amazon) and if so, what do you think of it?

Lori

My sister's husband's father ('s brother's cousin's uncle's college roommate) has one and he loves it. She thought about picking one up because he raved about it. I think it's for morons.

1) You don't actually own any of the books you purchase. ie, you can't sell them once you're done with it.

2) The book costs are outrageous. It's not even like they have to spend money on printing paper or crap and the damn paperbacks still cost something like $5-$6. You're only getting a couple bucks off tops and that's after you've bought their expensive ass machine. You'd think they'd cut you a real discount.

3) Technology will always get better. Never be a first adapter and always wait for the followup version.
On the Kindle - if you're a voracious reader, or are thinking of giving it to someone who is, I can't see them liking it (too expensive per book, as Henwy pointed out). However, for someone with unique needs, esp. visual impairment, it could be just the thing. I imagine it can display the text in a large font - heck, I'd hope it can actually read the text aloud. There also may be a good selection in foreign languages.

I don't trust anyone who continues to write books after they're dead. All it means is someone has more greed than sense.
