now i mean i might come off as alittle too conservative but to say that its only a pg rating and that its ok for kids to see that is a bit outlandish.

Actually the MPAA is not saying that film is OK for kids to see. That would be a 'G' rating. A 'PG' rating says that parents should decide. I haven't seen the film but other parents that I spoke with who did said it was appropriate for 7+ years old. And these were conservative parents. From the MPAA site: "This is a film which clearly needs to be examined or inquired into by parents before they let their children attend. The label PG plainly states that parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, but the parent must make the decision." What you described is consistent with a 'PG' rating.

this film , Memoirs of a Gesha, only recieved a pg-13 rating when personally i dont think that would be apropriate for a 13-16 year old to go ahead and view. its an inappropriate rating. the mpaa abuses its power. and because it has so much power the poduction studios bend to the mpaa based around a SELECT group of peoples opinions which are still only giving opinions based upon those higher ups in the mpaa if a rater did not agree with what the higher ups thought it should get they would get canned.

Now this film I have seen and it does sort of fall in the grey area. But like you said, you personally don't think it would be appropriate for 13-16 year olds. Me, I would have no problem taking my 16 year old son or daughter to see it as I think it has some good messages and lessons, acts of kindness, different cultures and what is acceptable in different countries.

I do think that there are a few examples of movies that have received harsher (or softer) ratings that was warranted but this is the exception to the norm. Ratings for the most part do convey the level of profanity, sexuality, and violence (albeit in varying degrees) and for that reason, they work despite the infequent abuse of rating "power" by the MPAA.

Ok, I'm off to watch a film. ;)
-D=S

If you have to explain it, its just not as amusing. So think about it for a moment and if you still don't get let me know and I'll explain.

Well I would have agreed with you about it being nothing until he left the comment he did. :\

He has repeated signed off as -D or -Douglas.
Much like you often sign off G.
Where as others on the board just sign off Mike, Kim, George with out any abbreviation or dash to denote change of thought or signal end. As the stating of name is sufficent.

My name would be hard to do through symbols. Probably the closest I could get would be a happy face and a rising sun. But I think that would be kinda reaching.
Yours would be more difficult bro.
Typically if I sign off its usually by what the person calls me and my little happy face to show I'm smiling. *smiles*

By the by Douglas, sure you would have to post that and get me wondering. Stupid pixie curiousity! *grumbles*

Boy, have I missed alot while I was offline for the weekend! Wow!

1. Loved the squirrel delivery service - I love anything with peanut butter!
2. Instead of pancakes, can I have french toast? Hmmmmm - french toast......
3. THIS FILM IS NOT YET RATED premiered at the LA Film Festival last year, so I got to see it (I was a festuval volunteer). It should be mandatory viewing for anyone who has any doubts about the MPAA ratings system, or even for those w/o doubts who still love movies.
4. Saw CASINO ROYALE last night with friends - thought it was okay. I thought it was needlessly complicated, though. Last movie I saw in a theater was 300, which I thought was pretty awesome.
5. Finally, I don't think I've done it on the forum, but I sometimes sign off with this symbol:

B-)

B for Brian, plus it looks like my glasses!

Brian, or B-)
