TOPIC: What makes you unique?

What makes you unique? 2 years 10 months ago #37

Until my recent retirement from the shop, I worked in the comic book business for 31 years.

Maybe pop culture business would be more specific: we did Beanie Babies, Pogs, Magic, PokeMon, Yu-Gi-Oh, action figures, POP figures...the list goes on.
Tenth level achieved! Now for the long journey to 11th level!

In my youth, I spent 13 summers working in a video game arcade that traveled with a carnival. It makes local install / dismantle feel very familiar.

This has been fun reading about everyone.

I'll go with I may be the only TD person that owns a Candy Store.

I may never catch up with most of you regulars in True Dungeon level, but I have one of the highest GameHoleCon levels on this forum. My first GHC was the year *before* TD came in, as it's quasi-local to me and I am a huge board-gamer.

This is a really cool list.

I may be the only Mummer in TD as it is very specific to Philadelphia however I was an active member for 17 years to boot in Hegeman String Band. (My grandfather is in the mummers Hall of fame with 52 years!) I used to LARP but I did it for 10 years and I am sure no one in TD has a trophy for Roleplay Teacher of the year from Knight Realms larp.

Not sure any one thing makes me unique. It's more the sum of many things.

While I've missed a few years along the way, I've been going to Gen Con since it was located at UW-Parkside. I started out collecting CCG cards, but really missed the beginning of M:TG. I first got into playing smaller CCG tournaments, but managed to win several World Championship Tournaments for Buffy, the Vampire Slayer CCG and Austin Powers CCG (more of a fun party game than anything). I was also runner-up the couple of years they ran 24 CCG tournaments.

I'm one of several thousand people who picked up a share of Green Bay Packer stock several years ago. But legally, that does make me an NFL Owner. (LOL).

And while there are so many wonderfully creative people that play TD, I did take the time to self-publish a series of fantasy novels (The Verdan Chronicles). It was a story that stayed stuck in my head for decades until I decided to tell it. (Note: Self-publish as in its 'out there', but I don't make any money from it). The books do look awesome on my bookshelf.

Lastly, and most importantly, I've been married to the same wonderful person for over 40 years. She's put up with a lot and had to see a lot more of me than usual during this pandemic. But somehow, we're still together.

So, that's me.

Married for 4 years to my wife and a step father to my son, I’m not that special but they are. I suppose that makes me unique.

I took my wife's last name when we married 26 years ago.

At the time the forms did not allow for a male to have a sir/maiden name. So on the marriage application and certificate, i filled out the bride side and she filled out the groom side.

*amended*: around the same time, I got laughed at when I went to the passport office because they had no idea how to manage the name change.

My first 2(?) GenCons were also at Parkside.

I think I was the 1st and only world champion of Stratego: Legends.

I played in the first MtG US Championships and qualified for the finals... but I chose to watch The Ohio State / Notre Dame football game instead.
