Hey, I just wanted to chime in here and tell everyone "cool". If you look at all the discussion about this Event Contest the words "True Dungeon" comes up a lot -- like we were the defacto standard or main thing...sorta like Magic or D&D.

"My card game is like Magic only it is better because..."

"My game is sorta like D&D only combat is better because..."

"My event is like True Dungeon except with dinosaurs..."

Is it not cool to be honored as something to be compared to? This is so sweet. It means we have really made an impression! Thanks to everyone who has helped that happen.

I am curious. Are they posting descriptions of the 3 finalists games? I only see the title and those that submitted the idea.

True Lost World

Last I knew they did not want to release details of the top three event entries because they may change during this final round of the contest. Sounds like they wanted to avoid having people get their hopes up for a certain aspect of the event only for it to change or go away in the final design.
David (S.)

Im a little confused then. What are people reading which compares the game ideas to TD?
In the GenCon forum section people who have submitted their ideas but weren't excepted are now reveling what they submitted. From what I have read some of them were interesting to me and I hope that they are turned into events in the future.
David (S.)

Only three were picked, but several people have mentioned what their idea was that was submitted and not picked.
Also rennie listed the general types that submissions seemed to fall under.
Rennie said in one post:

In case you were wondering...

There were over 80 submissions.

I could categorize them into the following categories

True Dungeon-esque with a twist (more roleplaying, more puzzles, computers, nerf guns, larger scale, smaller scale, Super Heroes, Modern, Pulp, Medieval, Sci-Fi)

Espionage-style

Puzzle/Strategy

Murder Mysteries

Esoteric/offbeat/Non-standard gaming events

Electronic Games

Events that didn't follow the rules (ie. no events that used copyrighted material or someone elses Intellectual property)

LARP-Styled Events

Large-scale adaptations of Mini's/RPG/LARP/Boardgame/Card games.

There was a lot of crossover and I think some of you should join forces next year, share your ideas and come up with a really, really, super-duper-mega-strong event! And even if you don't win, you have a plan and an event you can still bring to Gen Con!
End quote.

This is from the Who Sent A Great Event thread:
Page one: community.gencon.com/forums/1/2605/ShowThread.aspx

Hope that helps Dequils.

I guess I would put my event in the electronic game section.
David (S.)

I don't care too much who actually wins the contest, but I thought the fact that all three finalists live in Indianna was a little lame.

Yeah I noticed that too.

But it could be more a function of the people that submitted ideas in the first place. I don't know what the exact number is but I would guess that 80%+ of the ideas came from people who live in Indiana.

That's because only really smart, creative people live in Indy.
