OK, I know I could google it, but I'm gonna ask you directly and look stupid in front of the whole class.

What's a negative split?

I don't know all these fancy running terms...I just run until I think I'm gonna die, run a little more and then either get my 2nd wind and keep going or fall off the treadmill and die. (ha ha ha)

A negative split is when you run the second half of your workout faster than the first half. It's a great goal, b/c it trains your body to work harder and run faster when you are already tired. For example, the first half of my run yesterday was about 25:20 long. I turned around and followed the same route home, but did it in about 23:35.

Another good workout is a tempo run: do your usual distance, but in the middle of your workout, run one mile at a faster pace, and then slow back down to your regular pace.
Thanks for all your support! The race is less than three weeks away! But the next big date is tomorrow - Thursday, 8/19, is my final funds deadline. If I am short of my fundraising minimum, I have to cover the difference. However, I can still accpet dontions for at least 6 more weeks, and I will be reimbursed for any funds up to my minimum. Huge thanks to everyone who has already donated, and huge encouragement to anyone who is thinking of or planning on donating!
Lots of luck, Brian! I'm hoping that anyone who is still thinking of donating to this very good cause will do it today.
I checked my finances, and was able to add a little more to my orignal donation.

(BTW - Thanks Lori for asking what a negative split was, because I didn't know either! )

Good workout tonight. Went to a local park (man, LA traffic SUCKS with a capital SUCK!) and went up and down the ladder on their running path (1/2 lap hard with 1/2 lap recovery, 1 lap hard with 1 lap recover, 1.5 with 1, 2 with 1, 1.5 with 1, 1 with 1, 1/2 with 1/2). Add 4 more laps for warmuo and cooldown, and we have about 5.5 miles! Saturday I am doing a 10K, and then Sunday we are running 14 miles, my last long run before the Disney Half.
