Ran 3.4 miles last night. Felt tight after Sunday's race, plus it's always harder to run in the evening. Always surprised when I see people running late at night, like after 10.

Team in Training starts up again officially on Sunday! I'm training for the Disneyland Half Marathon now, and I am mentoring a group of runners on the team. If you thought of donating before but were not able to, please go to my fundraising site - the link is in my signature.

Brian

Okay - so when I said "by the end of the week," I should have said EVENTUALLY. Raven - I put your ORB OF MIGHT in the mail yesterday. Can't predict when it will get there, but it's now in the capable hands of the USPS! Thanks again for your donation!

S'okay... it's not like I have any pressing need for it before GenCon, right?
Although, I'll be honest: the Orb of Might was one of the tokens Lady Myke had really been wanting to pick up this year, and couldn't afford. I intend to make it a present to her, rather than keeping it myself. So I'm not hurting for it, either way ; )

Share the love!

Yesterday I ran pier to pier for my long run - about 7.7 miles along the beach, to the end of the Venice and Santa Monica Piers. Definitely a great place to train here in Santa Monica!

Today was our first practice for the new TNT season. Really big team with some really positive people. Should be a great season! I'm raising funds again - this time I am training for the Disneyland Half Marathon. I think that should be a really fun race! My goal - break 2 hours! Click on the link to my fundraising page in my sig for updates!

So how do I change the title of my thread? I'd like to change it to the Disney half marathon.
So I need one of you clerics or paladins - My back and hip are bothering me, so I figure I need a Cure Moderate Wounds or some laying on of hands here so I can keep running.

Sadly, I don't think laying on hands works from across the country.... but here's hoping as I send you plenty of positive thoughts.

As my party's Druid, I can just say that pain is natural ...

... as a real guy who just started jogging again, my back is killing me, so I totally sympathize with your pain. I cannot even begin to imagine running a marathon, or half marathon, or 10K, or to the grocery store to buy some Funny Bones.

Here is hoping you the best.

For my back spasms, I did what my High School trainer taught me to do (many many years ago when I played HS football): apply cold for 15 minutes, then stretch by doing leg over left (lie on back, right leg up in the air 90 degrees, drop it to your left side), leg over right, leg over back (lie on back, both legs up and over until toes touching or at least pointing to the ground), then rock (lie on back, curl up in fetal position, rock back and forth); apply heat to back for 15 minutes, repeat the stretches; then repeat the loop (cold, stretch, heat, stretch, cold, stretch, heat, stretch ...). Never stretch so that it hurts-- pain is bad. It took me 2 hours to get my back ok, but it is ok now.

So many years later, I don't really know if her advice is medically sound, but I believe that her best advice is still the best answer-- if an hour or two of stretching; or a day or two of rest; doesn't alleviate the pain, then see a doctor-- because the health of your back is too important to gamble.

So, I couldn't keep quiet-- I had to share Lynn's advice (my HS trainer). She helped me when I got a severe concussion, and she saved my brother's eyesight when he got hit by a baseball-- and I really trust her advice of seeing a doctor if a short time or a some simple stretches doesn't fix the pain.

But let me conclude by saying kudos ... you have already done what is in my 5+ year plan to achieve to getting in shape, so that is totally awesome. I really really hope that your back and hip pain are just minor inconveniences.

Thanks. Today is an off day, so I am doing the ice/heat/stretch thing. I will try some of those stretches, DrU - Thanks!
