  • Runic Scalemail: 6AC; +1 to AC per Runestone equipped
  • Runic Shield: 3AC; +1 to Fort Saves per Runestone equipped
  • Runic Helm: 2AC; +1 to Will Saves per Runestone equipped

I like this idea, especially if it is in conjunction with a couple options for Runestones coming this year. As someone who likes to use Runestones, I’ve felt the last few years have been kind of flat with them.

One issue is runestone options are generally limited by supply (even an uncommon runestone can be hard to come by if its 5+ years old). Another is that you can only take more than 1 if they are rare given the runestone fitting base limitations.

Maybe work in a relic runestone fitting base that also allowed common and uncommon runestones?

Since we'd probably want to reprint the Runestone Fitting Base if we did make the Runic pieces, it'd be a great time to give it a transmute path like that.

Honestly feels more like an uncommon than a UR.

Honestly a good idea, but I don’t like it 😂 but with the use of so many I still think IS are pretty competitive. I wouldn’t use them on every day runs. Only if I knew they were gonna be there or had a gut feeling. Plus with the shirt of shielding cancelling out all ret dmg, allowing both the topaz and diamond to be equip isn’t a make or break a room. You have the topaz trillant and the topaz sphere. I will assume for now for this post, that TD will do the same: a R and UR for the Diamond. The only difference between the two for Topaz, is that the UR has saves. According to the notes on both Trillant and sphere are: “The effect of this Ioun Stone stacks with that of the Ioun Stone Topaz Sphere” and vise versa for the sphere. This gives me + 20 Darkrift dmg. If we allow this stacking why would we not allow two Trillants?

There is plenty of design space to create a Trilliant for every damage type.

However, if a player can equip all necessary Trilliants to get -10 damage to all relevant damage types for a run, Dungeon design may go back to using more eldrich or “sacred fire” type damage. Better to make the player pick the type they want the extra DR for and not push dungeon design into an eldrich corner.

With the ability to bring in many more why limit it to only 1. If the future if Trillants are more in the future for other types, maybe limit it to 2 or 3 if we plan on doing something like 10 different ones. Gives a little space for players to try to prepare but not enough where it’s pushes into an eldritch dmg issue. Plus, these would be great for true grind and for Epic / Mythic dungeons where those 10 points of reduction aren’t gonna mean much when you’re being hit for 40/50 pts depending on the situation. It’s hard for me to say what those levels will do because there’s such a delicate balance and there’s a lot of unknowns.
