-1 I would like to see it reprinted every few years

That’s a fairly big design decision. It does the following:

1) invalidates tokens like the Death Knight cloak that allow 1/room attacks vs fliers, which reduces build variety and reduces design space

2) encourages melee mono builds with no build compromises, which in turn pushes damage higher and yields a higher damage spread as gear level increases.

3) reduces role based character and party design. Wizard spells and ranged rangers being able to hit fliers at full power means a lot less when all the melee members of the party just FA drink a potion

What if it was one attack per potion instead of one potion per room?
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

Not a bad idea, would prefer a different name in that case to avoid confusion.

Still not great for basically all the same reasons. If there has to be a consumable that lets melee characters attacking flying creatures, what about:

Arrow of Earthbind
If this attack hits it deals no damage, but affected creature loses flying for one round.

That would at least encourage some team work

I respectfully disagree. Having a rare that is consumed to do what an UR does all the time is not 1 to 1, its targeting a different demographic. Death knight cloak also grants +2 saves so its not exactly a dead slot otherwise.

Personally I also don't think there is anything wrong with melee trying to go all in on melee in terms of promoting build diversity (not that I think we should be trying to promote any particular line of play over another so long as people are having fun playing).

The argument of less people wanting to build ranged also kind of looses some of its teeth for me when a lot of the best in slot builds either want to be using an assassins crossbow/Thor's already or have a way to attack melee as ranged with gloves of the flying fist etc all the time.

Also try turning it around. These days ranged can do crazy damage too, besides sunk cost or RP why even bother building melee when you can just be ranged and not have to deal with stuff like retribution or ranged only combats.

(IMO), potion of leaping attack is a low investment utility item that serves a purpose and lets people go "oh, wait I have a consumable for that" which again IMO feels good and doesn't happen enough.

Not saying that either of us is right or wrong here, just that how we value and evaluate the factors in terms of overall good for the game clearly differs.

I understand your reasoning but there are tokens that already do this: gloves of flying fist ( Monk ). I think these are just like most other 1/room that impart abilities that allow players another path outside of shifting there build. If they don’t have this then they will have to find a way to shift but I still think that allowing potions like this are an extra step a player has to do and remember to bring and use and the correct time in order for it to be useful.

Also Crown of Focus from 2021, same reasons.

Is there demand for crown of focus?

Potion Leaping Attack is fine - some people really like it, and if it causes dungeon problems it ages out as it gets used so it is negligible risk to TD to print it.

Absolutely no one should be concerned about a rare consumable "invalidating" a partial element of a UR - if we stuck to that there is a huge range of consumables we could never reprint - notably things like Potion Death's Door.

There is long precedent in TD of consumables being extremely powerful, e.g. uncommon Potion Bull's Strength conveying the same benefit as a UR/Relic level waist slot item.

Also - you need to drink the potion - which costs you either an action, or a slot and a free action, or another UR token to combo with and a free action - it doesn't just grant you the ability to attack monsters at range at no tradeoff.

Finally, TD has in the past, and could in the future, make encounter design that prevent potion leaping attack from working while still preventing basic melee attacks: monsters on the other side of a chasm, or on the other side of a narrow bridge or tunnel, or behind bars.

IIRC we got 2020 treasure two years in a row for all VTDs. 2021 didn’t have enough ordered and they had extra 2020.

It combos with a 3* as of 2024

And since I’m not aware of any dungeon having more than 1 flying creatures combat, 1/game is sufficient to cover never needing to worry about it due to the potion.

Edit:
As for potion of Bull’s strength, it doesn’t have a game altering impact. It adds a couple points of damage (as little as 2% on some builds) and a few points of +hit.

Negating a flying creature with a simple potion does have material, game altering
Impact - the chance for the spell casters or ranged characters to really shine is muted.
