TOPIC: What should a Relic and Legendary cost in 2024?

What should a Relic and Legendary cost in 2024? 1 year 2 months ago #49

I think $300 for relics and $1000 for legendries is fair.

Relic is a UR ($100) plus $200 of goods
Legendary is Relic ($300), two UR's (@ $100 each) plus $500 of goods

I just started collecting tokens this past year and have only been able to gather enough for one legendary (I splurged for a CoA) but likely will collect 1 legendary a year at this cost. Relics being around $300 makes them more appealing and let me gather multiple relics versus one big purchase on a legendary. The relics provide the intro "fun" part for the equipment and getting my first class relic made the game alot more enjoyable.

I do agree that the older Legendaries are really tough to craft since some of the UR's to craft them cost as much as relics. Would be nice to see that be a more generic requirement after a few years (start out with a specific recipe and after 3 years make it a OR with a new UR every now and then).

If the Relic and Legendary prices drop from the current price to around $300 and $1000 (which is approximately the secondary market price but less than the current transmuting cost), it's worth considering what the impact would be on trade goods prices. If a lot fewer of them are being pulled out of circulation, that could cause a glut which would drop prices even further than they are now.

To me, the ideal recipe cost is one that pulls enough trade goods / monster bits / GP out of circulation to keep them from reaching a glut and price freefall situation but not too much which results in shortages and price spikes. I think that's why we've seen the recipe costs go up over the years, they've really had to in order to keep up with all the additional tokens entering circulation from additional conventions, higher bonus treasure pull amounts, VTD, and more token purchases (evident from the increase in Golden Tickets). I know that's pretty hard to calculate, but one recommendation is to look at the current token state, and increase the trade goods that are in glut (low price) and decrease those in short supply (high price).

Relics: $300-$450
Legendaries: $450-$700

Notes

  • This is just the trade good cost
  • This does not include PYP, gold, wish rings, or any other special tokens
  • Legendary costs do not include the Relic

Thanks Marc. This is great information.

You are quite welcome!

One more note: I didn't include GP or PYP in the trade good cost (even though gold is a trade good) because:
- The amounts are fixed year-to-year
- Prices are stable compared to other TGs

So, PYP and GP form a "floor" of the transmute cost, at least in the current recipes.

What would that floor add up to? It would be nice to see the total costs including those. Also, by any chance to you have it broken out by year? It would be interesting to see what the trend lines are over a four year period. :)

PYP vary from $90-115 each, depending on year. $100 is a nice round number.
5k GP tends to be around $60-$70
25k GP ranges from $300-350
Wish rings go from $185-205

These are all averages (mean) for the full year of auctions (or full year to date for 2023).

Gold used to be worth significantly more. Seems unusually stable in recent years given that the desirability of recipes from year to year changes as does the number of relevant recipes.

I think those pyp prices have changed ...Bead is constant. This years stuff has dropped already and last years is even worse for URs

PYP have dropped about $20 from 2019-2021 and 2022-2023 based on what I have recorded.

I was thinking all URs. PYPS will be higher because of TEs

Ah, got it now. You mean buying an Ultra Rare either by PYP OR by secondary market.

Fair point. Some of the recipe ingredients have gone for very low prices recently. Amulet of Aiming, for example, is $50-ish right now and an ingredient for Luna's.

Amulet of Aiming isn't exactly going to make it in anyone's build either, so there is no real surprise it's only $50. Lucky kilt is slightly surprising to see so cheap given it's good, but cheap Dungeonbane just kills the value.

I think one of the reasons PYPs have dropped in value in recent years is that the supply of them on the secondary market is significantly greater. There are far more auctions now than there were just a few years ago. For me at least, in 2020 it was pretty tough finding any PYPs for sale.
