I love this idea.

It'd give the Rogues something to think about: Do I want Nightshades' for the extra sneak attack damage? Or the Assassin's crossbow for that Crit multiplier? or an Ebony Dagger for a small chance at stunning?
I think even The Rogue Who Has Everything would pick one up, for use in those situations where what you really want is a stun.

EDIT:

I thought about this a little more, and while I like the idea, I generally dislike URs which can only be used by a single class. They're more interesting to a random newbie who might pull them in a 00 pack, if they can be used by more classes.

What about: +2 Ebony Dagger - all classes (except Cleric?) Rogues stun on a Natural crit.

(Tossed "Natural" in there, so we don't have Raphiel Rogues stunning on 17-20)

For theming it could be more appropriate as a sap. Since it matches a monk class ability maybe a 1/combat limitation too.

this would be a major loss to the specialization of the monk.


the SAP idea is interesting...reduction of ToHit by 4 for a round...would be interesting while the monster tends to the wound.

We already took away a class power from the human fighter and made it available to everyone via FoP:Panther.

I think the design space of allowing stunning is interesting.

Maybe a weapon that gives -2 to hit (to the player) but allows for a stun?

Perhaps rogues (and fighters?) would not get the -2?

To implement, I think it looks like this:

Pressganger's Sap
3-4-5-6
Stuns on a 20 (1/room)
Fighter and Rogue get +2 hit

There are a lot of conditions in the game that don't get used. Consider any of these for effects to inflict on a monster.

Shaken
The victim suffers a –2 To Hit on all attack slides and all saving throws.

Sickened
The victim suffers a –2 To Hit on all attack slides, –2 to all saving throws, and –2 Damage when using a physical weapon. (A successful hit always deals at least 1 point of damage, unless negated by the target’s Damage Reduction.)

Slowed
The victim may only take actions every other round and suffers a –2 AC penalty.

I think the stunning / dazing effects are interesting in a sense, but mainly in that in small doses they are fun, in large doses it leads to bad player experiences.


TD would not be fun for many players if the monster never acts because it is stunned or dazed.

A mix of players who are up for dungeon fun and those intent on stun locking monsters is a recipe for bummers.

What about a weapon that says "If a monster is hit four times with <Weapon Name>, the monster becomes slowed"?
The intent being that multiple players can use it to generate the effect faster.

I think I'd prefer a different effect to stunning on a natural 20. The +2 Stunning Lt. Crossbow is a fairly recent token which already has that effect, but it rarely sees much play and tends to have a pretty low trade value.

To support Guedoji and Raven's suggestions though, I like the idea of an alternative Rogue/Monk/Other weapon with a non-damage effect, so maybe temporary AC reduction on any crit (including expanded crit range) would be a good way to do it?
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

I may be in the minority, but all of my melee characters that only hit ranged on a 20 equip the Stunning Lt Crossbow. This is particularly true of my retribution builds that want a low dex and low AC.

If I'm going to need a 20, I may as well get a stun for it, right?

Ear Hoop of the Cabal:
Usable by Bard, Cleric, Druid, Wizards
Can use a single wand token entire run (last room turn in). The rarity of the wand that can be affected and its bonus are based on the total number of ELotC worn in the party:
1-2: Common +1,
3-4: Uncommon +3,
5: Rare +5.

I know it's a lot of text, but that is fitting for a Cabal token.
