This is more an idea for a mechanic than a token, but it would seem to me to come into play at the UR+ level so I'm posting it here.

In the last few years Jeff had mentioned something about not having intended for players to swap melee and ranged hand slots willy nilly - and proposed a Charm token that offered a big benefit if you didn't. I think this came up in conversation around the +2 Staff of Power vs. the Ring of Power (but I can't recall exactly).

I was thinking we could introduce an optional "locked" property that would be applied to selected melee and ranged weapons.

"Locked" weapons would require you to equip them for the entire adventure*. They would be denoted by some symbol near the hand icons on the bottom of the token.

"Locked" weapons could be more powerful than non-locked weapons in general, to compensate for this lack of flexibility.



* Some effects, such as a rust monster, could cause you to lose your Locked weapons, but you couldn't voluntarily remove them.

Messing around in the UR-weapons space:

A +3 to hit weapon with a worse than normal damage wheel.

A +1 to hit weapon with a better than normal damage wheel.

Cookie's Lure (Melee offhand)

You may not perform offensive actions during the 1st round of combat.
+15 Retribution damage
Taunt (1/game)
Dwarf Fighter: You may perform offensive actions during the 1st round of combat.

Note: You must equip this for the entire adventure.

Scythe of Death - Two handed melee weapon

Damage wheel: 13, 13, 13, 13

The first time you score a hit each combat, you and your target both make a FORT saving throw:
If the player's result is higher the hit is a critical.
If the target's result is higher the player's HP becomes 0.
(On a tie resolve damage normally)

Usable by*: Barbarian, Cleric**, Fighters, Monk, Paladin

* - I know historically Druids have been able to use Scythes and Monks haven't. Thematically a Scythe seems very appropriate to both Druids and Monks to me; however I'm targeting this UR for the Martial classes only.

** Cleric - It's a magical scythe, not an edged weapon - thematically I feel Clerics should be able to use a tool of the personification of death.

Please don’t take a classes’ unique ability and give to all. Otherwise we’ll have taunting raging sneaking fighters casting quickened fireballs.

(Brainstorming, I get it. Lure could be fine without that one line.)


Taunt is not unique to Dwarf Fighters - the ability originated with the Bard Troubadour subclass.

Anyway - this was an attempt to design a token that is good for taunting Dwarf Fighters, but usable by others, as it is hard to justify single class URs when only 20 are made each year.

Ioun Stone Prismatic Ward

When combat damage reduces your life total to below 20, you gain an additional DR 3 for the remainder of the room*.

Usable By: All

* DR against all damage types except: Eldritch and Puzzle, does provide DR for push damage out of the room. Cumulative with other sources of DR.

I’m brainstorming on a new Rogue item if the reprints don’t happen. Damage on the first one as not getting the clue has no downside for the 10th run. Rogue getting the chip (as opposed to the LD game winner) as that seem hard to Write out and put on a token. Maybe...

- once puzzle is solved, all players equipped play RPS with DM until exactly 1 winner remains. That player gets 1 chip from Rogue Box.


Coming from a fellow Rogue - anything that gives even more extra treasure to the Rogue is going to get shot down very quickly. (Rogue treasure is already often a contentious point when discussing Rogue balance).

We might have more luck asking for something like:

Writ of Bribery (Rogue)
Two other players may choose a reward for a successful Rogue Puzzle if the Rogue takes none.

This could give 2 treasure or 1 clue plus treasure depending on what the players choose, a similar result to a Libram (better on repeat runs). Rogue taking none means it would not stack.

Quartermaster's Locker - Slotless

At start of adventure you may turn in any or all of:

Rare Gloves for +2 to STR
Rare Cloak for +2 to saves
Rare Weapon usable by your class for +1 to focus
Rare Boots for +2 to DEX

To gain those benefits for the adventure.

Note: each effect can only be gained once. E.g. you can't turn in 2 Rare Gloves for +4 to STR.

Some ideas for a "Wondrous" UR GP token that offers some potential roleplay utility:

Everfull Net - 5000 GP Equivalent
Will retrieve numerous fish as a standard action when submerged in a natural body of water (1/game)

Pearl of Great Price - 5000 GP Equivalent
When held in the mouth you can speak and breathe underwater. (But you sound like you've got marbles in your mouth).

Bag of Winds - 5000 GP Equivalent
When opened a mighty gust of air escapes (1/game)

Pot of Potability - 5000 GP Equivalent
Creates 10 cups of drinkable water (1/game)

So - just brainstorming a bit, but it seems like there are some possible Ultra-Rare new or reprint tokens that might have a more limited market than normal URs. Like, maybe a consumable like the polymorph potion I recommended, or maybe some out of print URs that are mainly in demand because they are ingredients for Legendary recipes (like the +2 Sacred Sling).

What if, in addition to the regular 20 URs that are in the ONYX sets and available as 00 URs in 10 packs/condensed orders, we have some number (maybe a small number, around 5 or so) that are only available for order as PYPs? They wouldn't randomly be in packs or treasure boxes and wouldn't be in the ONYX sets. That might open the design window / reprint window a bit for some URs that mean a lot to a smaller group of people but not as much to the larger community or that new players would be disappointed to get in a random pack.

Maybe it would help token sales as well - a few more URs for people to order as PYPs. :)

Barbarian, Fighters, Paladin: May equip two handed melee or ranged weapons and use a shield
Monk: +2 to STR, +2 to DEX, may use Bracer weapons without equipping them
Rangers: May wield a two handed melee weapon usable by Druids with their single mainhand
Rogue: +8 Sneak Attack Damage

+1 to AC, may swap contents of hands as an instant action*

Bard, Clerid, Druid, Wizard

* E.g. can drink potions, read scrolls, use wands, cast spells, make attacks, do bardsong, etc. using the actions required for those types of things, possibly modified by other equipment, such as pouch of Tulz, without spending free actions to get the right stuff in their hands.
