The Staffs equip as two-hand Ranged weapons and they do not use DEX modifiers to figure to hit bonuses.

In all honesty I say get rid of the Staff's. Wizards just got a cool Neck item and if spell books are coming stick with that. Plus we already have Wands. Which in my mind are close to Staff's in concept. So nix the Staff's and create a cool UR Wand and maybe a Relic Wand. Then develop the Spell books for next year and tie them to intelligence somehow. And then Tome's for Clerics.

Even if the staff doesn't fulfill the design intent of being a good ranged option for Wizards it DOES fulfill the years long request to reprint the +2 Staff of Power.

Also given we've had the spellbooks pushed off another year also scrapping the staff of power at this point would just be another spit in the eye to Wizards who lost the spell book last year, promised it would be made this year.

Brooch of Beading - I think this is a missed opportunity to integrate the pirate theme by making these a pirate hair bead strand (or something - someone with a better vocabulary can wordsmith it in to a token). Something like this eBay link .

Idea
1-2 1hp
3-4 2hp
5-6 3hp
7-8 4hp
9 5hp
10 +3 initiative

I like this one.

Do you mean 10 would be +5 HP and +3 Initiative?

Yes sorry

10 5 hp, +3 initiative

A full party with this would be +30 initiative. Add another +10 for Charm of Awakened/Synergy. +10 more for an Elf Wizard. +50 initiative seems totally reasonable and not broken at all.

Ian Lee wrote: So, barbarian is way better than fighter. Loses a few armor options but can still have high AC. Has barely any disad at hitting since it has a higher STR than fighters do - barbarian and DF have identical to hits at both melee and range, for instance. Inflicts vastly more damage. DR is a really nice to have. Better hp.

+1 - Every fighter everywhere will +1 this.

Ian Lee wrote: Earcuff of the Ravager does not need to be better for typical barbarian builds in comparison to typical fighter (and can throw in paladin, etc.) builds. It makes zero thematic sense to class limit it to take off barbarian, as named. However, changing the theme, since URs don't really follow theme in the same way to class restrict to fighters, fighters/paladin, fighters/paladin/cleric (this may make more sense as a heal someday), fighters/paladin/rogue, or fighters/paladin/cleric/rogue for no particular reason other than mechanical balance would help classes that need help.

Then, reads to me like monks and rangers will get double use, as monks have little reason not to use weapons.

I'm all in favor of more to hit bonuses in the game divorced from STR or DEX, but it should be more favorable to the classes that actually need help. +2 to hit with one attack a round, +2 to hit in a slot where it would hurt better classes more, class restricted, whatever.

Not exactly sure on the best fix suggestion here, but I agree that the Earcuff of the Ravager needs refinement. It feels like the rich get richer scenario (ranger, monk, barbarian) and I'm not even sure fighters need the +to-hit. How about drop the +3 for 2-handed so its a straight +2 to-hit and give sword and boards something (+2 sacred damage)? All melee classes would be looking at it hard.

Also, speaking as the keeper of wife's ranged rogue, this might see play if it were melee and ranged until I review the orbits impact on our token stash.

Well then just reprint the +2 Staff of Power. And I think the only reason the spell books got delayed is because of the time crunch. Would rather have them done right then rushed.

I am also of the opinion to reprint the +2 Staff of Power if the Mage staves are not made to count +Spell damage bonus. I think most Wizards would be fine with the UR being moved to the +2 SoP and leave the Common/Uncommon as testing iterations

Could the Bead of Focus be updated to give INT and WIS?

+4 INT, +4 WIS
(Granting +2 to Spell hit and Spell Damage, +2 to Polymorph hit and Polymorph Damage, and +2 to Healing)

Maybe also change Earcuff of the Ravager to be +2 / +3 with 1H / 2H weapons so it helps melee and ranged but not spells

Ioun Stone Flourite Sphere is a strict upgrade over the Ioun Stone Firey Prism from two years back and is the third +2 damage melee Ioun Stone in 3 years. May be best to change the ability.

UR Ring of Expertise was printed this year and is the appropriate power level. Don't agree with reprinting +2 Staff of Power.

Folks were strongly recommending spell books and not wanting to wait until the character cards were redone.

Just a reminder that Stu's Stein already exists.

Not saying the Mug shouldn't be removed but there's already existing UR drink items.

Understood. Just for most folks food is more acceptable than drink. So drink should be on a rarity level of equal to or less than food.

Are you trolling? I can't follow what you are saying at all?

Are you saying the Mug should be dropped because of the Turkey Leg?

No trolling intended.

I recommended removing the Mug and adding back the Orbits. Orbits is in high demand and the mug is my least favorite of the URs being proposed.

Both food and drink items are in jest. I feel in jest items should have similar limits on power and rarity. Folks are all over the board on these items and currently drink items in the game are more powerful than food items. It would be nice to balance the scales.

I partially agree with you where I believe the Turkey leg was added in jest, but also by very popular demand. Your statement about mugs though I disagree with as I didnt see where it was mentioned it was added as a joke token. Additionally there are multiple fighting styles that use cups, mugs, bottles, & gourds in their off hand.

I think Orbits should be added back to the list, due to how the token design conversations went last year as well as the demand, but IMO we should have at least one UR PYP melee weapon every year. If we remove the mug will leave us with 0. Maybe it could be replaced for a main hand weapon, or allow all classes to use it as primary weapon. Personally drunken Kung Fu practitioner I would love to see more FoB mugs that benefit everybody.

Mugs have been a joke item for years in role playing games. It carried over from bar fights to a folks wanting to use them while adventuring outside the bar.

Despite being in circulation for years doesn't mean it should continue as is.

All of these joke items should have similar power levels for their rarity and typically they are done at the common level.

Reprinting the +2 Staff of Power is probably the best solution given the lack of finshing time for this design cycle and the issues surrounding making the new Mage staves. The Ring of Expertise does not fulfill the same niche in any way; that's why the +2 SoP reprint is still being suggested by many players this year. It will continue to be on that reprint request list every year until it is either reprinted, or a functional reprint is created. (and the Ring of Expertise is not a functional reprint)

"Folks" have been asking for a spellbook token for Wizard for more than 7 years now. They only became a thing Jeff was putting into potential design in 2020. And many of the design changes to Wizard token design in 2020 revolved around Wizard character card redesign.

JEFF said spellbooks would be created in 2021, that was a Jeff decision, not a player push for it.

When Jeff delayed the spellbooks due to the rush we agreed that delaying was the best course of action.

What you are putting forward is a factually inaccurate view of what happened.
