What upgrade was that?

Edit: I assume you mean the printing at a lower rarity?

I haven't read through all the posts, but in case it hasn't been suggested yet this year, it would be great to have a single token that takes 3 Ioun Stone slots and essentially replaces the Gold/Silver/Plat Nuggets. Ingredients would be the three Ioun Stones. You of course can't equip any of the three Ioun Stones if you have this.

It would be equivalent to the three Ioun Stones, but would speed up the check in the Coaching Room, and be 2 less (or 20 less for those of us outfitting the group) tokens to carry.

Ioun stone braided metal
Takes 3 ioun stone slots
+6 treasure

Transmutes from silver, gold, and plat nuggets.

Could add RFID validation to the tokens, but primary purpose would be to reduce amount of tokens you have to carry... especially for those of us supplying TEs for a party.

I always read it as woodie +1 Ring of Protection becoming chippie +2 Ring of Protection so that they could print rare chippie +1 Ring of Protection

In this case it would be a chippie becoming a better chippie, but I think there is some precedent for that with Gloves Of Dexterity having been offered a trade in for Gloves of the Cutpurse when people decided the latter was strictly better then the former. Ill admit I never understood that one though.

It happened in a bit different order. The Rare +1 Chip Ring of Protection got printed before the +2 UR Ring of Protection. It annoyed quite a few people that had the Wooden UR +1 Ring of Protection that there was a Rare version of it in chip form. When the +2 Ring of Protection was printed, that finally gave people the option to upgrade their Wooden RoP so it was better than the Rare version. The side effect was that it took a number of Wooden UR +1 Rings of Protection out of circulation. I'm still looking for the 2005b version.

Not sure if this is the right thread for Dragon Orb ideas, but here are some high level properties I'm interested in for the Dragon Orb transmute:

1. Similar to RoSP classes: a special occurrence not always available, e.g. your dragon buddy accompanies you once a year.

I like this because it allows for some wacky/risky effects that might break the dungeon if they were always available.

2. Similar to the "of Wonder" items: an effect that changes over time.

I like this because it means we don't have to come up with one effect now that makes everyone happy.

3. Similar to Psychic Powers and/or Mage/ArchMage abilities: Something that offers player choices each time it is used.

4. Finally, the following idea appeals to me tremendously, but I'm not sure if it would be popular....

Dragons love treasure.

I would be very happy to see some mechanic whereby you have to pay your dragon ally treasure to encourage its participation, or to get better effects.

E.g. your treasure is limited to 3 on your dragon run, or at least one boon that scales as you spend more treasure on it per year.

Or even a legacy mechanic where you feed your dragon treasure over years and it evolves?

The dragon orb transmute was specifically said to not offer any overly strong in game effect. I think many players who chose not to gather Dragon eggs based on that fact would be rather upset if the eggs granted an Eldritch token 1/year effect, a growing effect year over year or other piece.

How about crafting some Scrolls that are 1/game but not consumed on use?

Greater Scroll of Bless
Greater Scroll of Cure Minor Wounds
Greater Scroll of Fireball/Lightning Bolt etc.

Things that a spellcaster could craft to give themselves a small selection of multi use scrolls

Overly strong in game effect is highly subjective.

Most would say that the subclasses are not a huge boon, and in most cases are generally weaker.

I hope the orbs do more than just allow the subclasses, for example.

Sounds like a spellbook of some kind ;)

I know of some people who bought orbs on the assumption that Jeff break down on this once he saw how much people had spent on the orbs. Personally I just hope whatever they do it that they dont set off another explosion of unhappy comments in the dev threads. I also agree though that subclass use doesnt seem, well dragon-ish. IMO they should spawn some kind of "pet" just not sure for how long, how often, or what said pet should do.

P.S. full disclosure orbs are to rich for my blood.
