Dex is important for AC, REFLEX saves, ranged HIT, and for being able to equip some items that have a steep dexterity requirement.

Repeatedly people have said that ac dosent matter and reflex saves is on the current token so it’s not needed for that. As for requirements for items I don’t feel it’s real thematic to make a token so fighters can use Thor’s or los. Seems like it should be left to a ranged class

At a point AC doesn't matter but it is still a stat to boost. Saves are one of the most important stat to have at high level play and just because you have some reflex save, doesn't mean you don't need more. If game was black and white and Fighters never had to use a ranged weapon, then we wouldn't need Dex but when there are combats that require us to attack at range, Fighters will need every point of ranged to hit that they can get their hands on. Having Dex just to equip a weapon would be pointless, Dex affects many other important stats which is why many classes covet it.

Having 26 damage to spells, a cleric and/or druid in the party to heal, MEC, Charm of Spell Swapping. Additionally, assuming charm of power can be used for the free action spell.

This uses 12 pt damage scrolls placed in spell book. Key note: these are not consumed!

1st round:
FA scroll (arcane set) +MEC scroll:
(12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) = 53 + 80 = 133

2nd round:
MEC scroll + FA scroll (Charm of Power):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

3rd round:
MEC scroll + FA scroll (spell swap lvl 2 FA spell):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

- New room -

4th round:
MEC scroll + FA scroll (charm of power):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

5th round:
MEC scroll + FA scroll (spell swap lvl 3 FA spell):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

6th round:
MEC scroll (spell swap cat's grace/bull's strength) + FA scroll (Charm of Spell Storing):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

- new room -

7th round:
MEC scroll (spell swap a lvl 2 ray spell) + FA scroll (charm of power):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

8th round:
MEC scroll (spell swap a lvl 2 ray spell or invisibility or ironskin) + FA scroll (Crown of Expertise):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

9th round:
MEC scroll (spell swap a lvl 2 ray spell or invisibility or ironskin) + FA scroll (1 level FA):
(12 + 15 + 12 + 15 + 26) + (12 + 15 + 26) = 80 + 53 = 133

*you are now out of FA spells (aside from the 0 level spell), unless the cleric can restore the FA spell slots (they can, right)?

Since scroll spells deal 27 base, it's always worth using over fireball/lightning storm and every other spell unless AOE is called for.

After 9 rounds of combat, the card should look like the attachment:

Key point: 133 pts of damage every round by the wizard that automatically hits.

Thanks to Phil for running the numbers.

I think I'm running with the wrong group - my Elf Wiz has never been able to count on 30+ pts of healing per combat...

Your wizard needs to be good friends with the paladin, cleric, and druid so they dont need to keep bugging the same person.

Well both me and the other Wizard ... it may be guaranteed damage, but then we'd have to be guaranteed 60 points of healing per combat along with all the other healing from getting hit AND the rest of the party.

You forgot the tome of focus for +2 per spell. You can also drop the greater garnet charm for a charm of glory and a greater ring of focus. Orbits can trade to inspiration for another possible +4 (level 5 bard and rare instrument). Total increase per spell 9 damage. You can also add a few tweaks to get more HP and another damage, but they are crazy expensive (semi litch skull with all teeth, rod).

tdcharactercreator.com/#/character/edit/ff8f9ee6-0fa8-4f9b-8289-dc7cdef8bc77

You can also go with the cabal set to add more FA spells, but its going to cost a charm.

Edit:
I left room for a Plat Nugget, and the charming cabochon can become the elfstone shard for another +5 hp, which puts the build well into the 70s for HPs. Also carries a greater alchemist pouch so you can heal 11 from your 4* potions.

You stated an assumption that Charm of Power can grant you a spell as a Free Action. I don't believe that will turn out to be true.

Charm of power grants you a level 1 spell without crossing it off - PHB states that unless a token says otherwise an effect like this requires a standard action.

(Similarly, +2 Staff of Power would not let you cast spells as a scroll as a free action with the new Legendary).

I am personally doubtful that the Arcane Set bonus, and the Crown of Expertise will be able to generate free action spells as well. Certainly it could go that way - but "adding spell boxes" is a brand new mechanic - I think we'll have to wait and see how that would play out with more feedback as design progresses.

Question:

The Wizard Legendary says: "...gain 1 extra Spell-box at each level (cast as a Free Action)"

Can TBTP clarify interactions with other tokens that care about "spell boxes" and crossing them out, namely:

1. Arcane Set says: "When all three items are equipped, the first 0–2nd-level spell the wearer casts is not marked off their character card."

Can my Arcane Set grant me the use of one of the Legendary provided spell boxes, cast as a free action?

2. Crown of Expertise's TDb entry says: "Once per game, wearer may use one Special Power or Spell on their character card without marking its use off of the character card. It does not matter whether or not the box has already been checked. This item does not affect abilities which do not have a checkbox on the character card.

Crown of Expertise does not in any way alter the Action (Standard, Free, etc.) required for a spell to be cast or a power to be used.
"

Does this mean it can be used to apply one of the extra Spell boxes from the Wizard Legendary, and cast a spell as a free action?

3. Does 2021 Charm of Power let me cast a Level 1 spell as a free action if I have the Wizard Legendary?

4. Does +2 Staff of Power let me cast a Level 1 spell as a scroll as a free action if I have the Wizard Legendary?

I think you're speaking colloquially - but in case anyone is taking this statement literally...

There are plenty of ways that non-slid Wizard spells are not guaranteed to do damage, including but not limited to:

1. Spell resistance on enemy.
2. Effects on enemies that entirely cancel / negate magic (Ogre Mage, Elder Orb Eye)
3. Effects that cancel / negate spell casting (Silence, Scrael attachments)
4. Effects that compromise magic (50% miss chance vs. Mindflayer for all single target attacks, cold weather rules, underwater rules)

So, wizards do not automatically deal damage.

I think all of these possible interactions just emphasizes that the added spell boxes need to be regular action spells and not instant action. Instant action damage spells from the Wizard just allows two damage spells per turn (one of which can be enhanced by MEC) which is way too powerful.
