Sacrifice an additional spell at same level. Upon successful spell check, 2x spell bonus (1/room)

Does not affect base spell damage -- only the bonus spell damage.

Used for wizard transmute. Relic has (1/room) and sacrifice any level spell, Legendary has (1/room) no spell sacrifice.

I think it could be 1/room as a UR, considering its costing a spell to activate. As for only boosting bonus spell damage, hasn't MEC caused problems with math due to only boosting the base damage? Would this be easier for everyone if it just read something like this?

Really good point and I just realized that would probably be the better design after talking to my wife (druid).

I'm at a loss for what is and isn't too hard for math. Since MEC boosts base damage I wanted its role as a base damage booster to remain and to have this only boost the bonus spell damage.

I'm going to change the original post to reflect that.

If an entire party equipped this, the 4pt Shirt of Shielding, the Wind set, Gloves of Spell Negation and everything you can find which inflicts retribution damage you could have a good shot at reducing a DM to tears

"No matter what I did, nothing happened. The whole group was immune to ranged, retribution, magic and push damage. When I tried melee, the monster took more damage in retribution than it dealt to the party :( "
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

I see no reason why we'd want ANOTHER sacrifice item to boost Wizard damage when it's already so low on the stack and NO OTHER CLASS has any form of sacrifice mechanic tied to their ability to deal damage. That's not a theme we should be developing.

+1.

Also think if a wizard chooses to off themselves they should stay that way for the remainder of the run. No Paladin sacrifice, brought back, etc. Your character made a decision why would others have the option to undo your decision.

if you want to really amp up Damage, then you have to give something up. This token as written could be adding +39 damage from a single slot, guaranteed. It’s a fantastic theme, and one That already exists for the wizard - Tokens that cost the wizard something to add 18+ damage.

It’s also already a 2 damage lenses of focus, so its still something that has been asked for - just don’t sack a spell if You don’t want to

Just here to point out it’s not “adding 39 in a single slot”

Under your analysis it’s adding 39 when coordinated with equipping a dozen or two best in slot spell boosters.

Those other slots have to be used to boost spells to get your numbers.

It’s sort of like saying the Bard lutes or blowguns that let you do Bardsong and Attack are “adding a 30 damage attack in a single slot” - no - they unlock a capability. The power of that capability will depend on the rest of the build.

It, working in combination with a dozen or more tokens in a dozen or so slots are leading to the result you are considering.

Also - how are you getting to 39? I can’t figure out how to get to 39 spell damage bonus - I keep being off by 5 or so.

Take the build below, using 4*s, Uncommons and Rares, and add to a party with a level 4 bard using Lyre of Lore, an in print instrument:
www.truedungeon.com/forum?view=topic&catid=570&id=250935&start=0#361642

Total is +10 damage.
Add proposed UR: +11 damage

Pass skill check, sack instant safeguard, and Magic missile deals +11 damage. Compare to Gregor's Tome of Focus, Shirt of Focus, Banshee prism, etc, each of which adds +2 spell damage.

It adds more damage, even for an all rare build, than, say adding boots of the 4 winds and 2 other UR focus items. Even if you don't want to sac a spell, you get the same bonus to spell damage that you do from other URs built into to the lenses.

Also - how are you getting to 39? I can’t figure out how to get to 39 spell damage bonus - I keep being off by 5 or so.

Take this build here (+34 spell damage listed)
tdcharactercreator.com/#/character/edit/2f2f71de-8897-4edf-8b0d-25f4ebcc2efb

add 4 from earcuff of inspiration: Total +38
Replace lenses of focus with new proposed token: Total +39

Nice build!

I feel if you are going to include bard song in damage calculations for non-bards you should mention it. I believe when most people talk about hit/damage of a given class they are not rolling bardsong into it.

Hasn't it been a week since Jeff posted that he was done with common, uncommon, and rares? Either he is doing lots of detail work on these URs, or people need to stop posting new ideas that require reworking the set. ;)
