Can a combat dm weigh in - are you trained to take thrown weapons into your possession?

Per the DMG, we are supposed to set thrown weapons aside and return them at the end of combat. It's not something that I've ever heard come up during training, though.

In practice, I don't think I've ever actually done so. By the time I've looked at a puck and counted damage, force of habit has the puck sliding back towards the players already. Besides, if it's a new player, that thrown weapon is likely their only ranged weapon, and I'd rather fudge the thrown rules a bit than have them standing around doing nothing for the rest of the room. If it's a veteran, I give them the benefit of the doubt on knowing how many copies they have, and if they go past that... well... that's on them. There are other ways of cheating that I can't monitor either.

Are polymorph tokens treated in the same way? I've heard of cases where they are returned to the user at the end of combat along with the other tokens in sliders, instead of being collected.

I usually collect them as I'm returning the pucks after the last round of combat. If the polymorpher didn't slide that round, they're usually pretty good about giving me the potion on their way out of the room. I don't remember any time where I saw a polymorph on the table and didn't eventually get it in the bucket at the end of the room, but I admit the possibility I've missed a few.
