I support the theory, but I think Thor's Hammer is an exact example of what we should avoid. The stat chosen wound up being a minimal limiter on classes that previously weren't able to use a melee/ranged weapon of that strength, and is more of a limiter on classes that traditionally wielded weapons of that power level.

While I concur with your assessment, please, no UR Treasure box only tokens.
Unless the plan for greaves has changed, they are treasure only.

I really like this idea. For a long time I've been advocating to improve ranged damage to make all-in-str-melee not obviously the best build for most scenarios.

Your idea highlights that there is already a mechanical difference between ranged and melee: ammo. The problem is ammo is too precious to use now (~0.50 or $1.00 token to add +1/+1 to a single attack).

I'd love to see ranged get boosts by making ammo more playable.

I few riffs on this theme:

Quiver of Sympathetic Sacrifice - At the start of the adventure turn in 4 identical ammo tokens to get their bonus on the party card.

Charm of Awesome Ammo - All your ammo conveys a minimum of +3 to hit and damage in addition to its other effects.

Charm of Retrieval - Your ammo is only expended on a hit

At uncommon you could put this in either slot. At UR it's competing with +4/5 to STR or +5 to melee damage in the hand slot or +2 to damage with no downside or +2 charms in the wrist slot.

This effect at UR would need to be slotless to get played I think.

Maybe make it stronger, usable by all, and better for the barbarian?

Bracers of Reckless Attack: -2 to AC, +4 to damage with 2 handed weapons, barbarians gain -1 DR, usable by all?

Cmon Fiddy, give me the Cleric option we don't want to be left out.

I don't know about a legendary path, but I was thinking about Nerull's Unholy Charm - Allows caster to use a healing spell as damage once per room. I know as a Cleric oftentimes I wish I could be more versatile as a caster.

I agree about power creep in general - but I think you're aiming at the wrong target.

The power creep (at least in terms of damage dealt which let's face it is the name of the game), is not coming from Charm slots 4-8 nor Ioun Slot 6 or 7, nor Back slot 2, nor Ring slot 3 (ok... a tiny bit through Ring slot 3).

It's coming from the continual printing of combat boosters in new slots, and the upgrading of the best combat boosters in existing slots. Primarily STR / Melee boosters.

I think it would be cool if every stat had a figurine of power/charisma like slot.

Str: Horns
Dex: Quivers/Sheaths/Tools (it could be a pouch Item slot)
Int: Books
Char: FoP
Wis: Holy Symbols (make some not specific to Clerics)

+1 to UR greaves. +X hp, -1 saves. Could transmute to lose the penalty, then to +2X hp.

5,000 GP Henchman Contract -
Turn in during 2020 to gain +3 to hit and damage (melee/ranged/spell) for the 2020 season.

Always redeemable as 5000 GP towards reserve bar transmutes.

We could fiddle with the GP value - I'm looking into design space for a UR consumable that would be desirable / used - this may overshoot the mark and be too good, but the damage is limited to 1 year.

Another version:

5,000 GP Bodyguard Contract -
Turn in during 2020 to gain +3 to saves, AC, and -3 damage from melee, ranged, spell attacks for the 2020 season.

I forgot about the bead slot, but that would be perfect.

But a charismatic based Charm Person/Monster ability for a 5 lvl bard only useful on humanoids (4th lvl) all monsters (5th lvl) be both hilarious and terrifying.
