Each attack deals you 10 damage. You cannot be healed until end of combat.

Add "you may only attack with this weapon" and "you must attack each round if able" and you've got something!

Maybe Possessed not Cursed?

IMO make this a cheap transmute and your talking. We had a big discussion about cursed items a few years back and the general feeling was people might be bummed out to pull one in a pack as their only UR, but if they made it problem solved.

I could see this as a relic transmute that took any UR weapon in it's ingredient... you never know what you're going to get when you pick up a magic sword...

I would make that quarterstaff a +2 prismatic quarterstaff - +2 all saves.

One, in a world of enchanters whetstone, generic +2 weapons won't be popular. Second, it's likely competing with the staff of focus, which still isn't going to be a good comparison

Charm of Studious Mind - 2 extra 0-level spells (Cleric / Wizards)

Charm of Nature's Friend - Spend action to summon creature to distract monster from one attack next round (Druid / Ranger) (1/combat)

Charm of Interposing Hand - You may take half the damage dealt to another party member by a targeted attack (Monk / Paladin) (1/combat)

Charm of Razor's Edge - your attack causes ongoing 5 points of damage at start of every round as vital fluids continue to pour out (Bard / Rogue) (1/combat)

Charm of Frenzied Attack - Your attack is +5 to hit and damage but monster can make an immediate free attack on you in response (Barbarian / Fighters) (1/combat) (attacks happen simultaneously, so neither side can shortcut the damage)

Jeff said he wants to go back to basics. So it's a simple, +2 weapon that can be used by any class.

Maybe it could have an upgrade path...

Maybe some classic dnd item then, like a +2 staff of striking? Basic in the sense of right out of the book dnd item?

This seems nearly identical in effect to Cloak of Shadowskin except you cancel the attack before it is made not after it hits (and it can stop magic).

Unless 'distract' means it gets -2 to hit hit or something?

I worry this would slow down combat too much.

It would be very aggravating to only get in 2 rounds of combat because 2 of these were in the party and the monster had to resolve 4 extra attacks over those rounds due to two of these being in the party.

On the plus side, this would give these two classes a chance to experience the joy that casters experience in skipping skill checks because they take up too much time to be worth the 3 damage (or 5 in this case) they grant. In turn maybe next time a token is proposed that bypasses skill checks it would be received better.

Maybe let the monster auto-hit instead. That would speed things up.

Yes - also I see it's once per combat so it would only be 2 extra attacks.

Still - I think these kind of 'LOOK AT ME' mechanics are bad in a party game.

When one player is taking up substantially more than 10% of the DMs time its not conducive to an enjoyable group experience.

Hmm? Look at me mechanics are the heart and soul of a party game. The tank is supposed to get the monster to focus on her, ignore the more squishy people. The fact that TD bypasses this so often is a major source of annoyance to many of us.

That said, I agree that this token is problematic, both in its time consumption and lack of clarity.

Maybe it is was something like:
Charm of Frenzy
+5 to to hit and damage on your next melee attack. The monster you attack must attack you on its next turn, and gets +3 to hit and damage. (1/combat)
Usable by: Barbarian & Fighters
