TOPIC: Flying with tokens

Per Google, the current price of gold is $1,329 per ounce. A token weighs 0.4 ounces, so a token's weight in gold would be worth $531.60.

So... yes, high-end tokens trade for more than their weight in gold.

I have flown several times with my tokens and only had one incident that stood out. I always carry-on, even though they get heavy, partly because of how heavy they are. If you check them, it can quickly make the bag overweight. I also like to keep sight of my precious....

The one incident I can recall is when I had a big old bag of random draw tokens all mushed together and it didn't scan well through the machine. They wanted to paw through it but quickly realized it was all the same thing. Otherwise, I keep my actual builds in a big three-ring binder with token sheets and its easy for them to just flip through it. It didn't take more than about 5 minutes extra for me, but I don't have thousands of tokens.

Either way, definitely take one of the "Loose Item Containers" specifically for the tokens so they can quickly see what it is and you should be alright. If asked, I usually just explain that they are for a game and they have a metallic core for use with magnets (How do they work?). That tends to get an "Oh, alright. Bored now" expression and they wave me through.

Had 2 carry-ons today. Asked me if token bag had metal. I explained about metal slugs. Other bag got hand searched. Spent lot of time handling Costco pistachio bag before handing over to me.

I had everything pretty well organized in clear plastic baggies, so they took maybe five minutes looking then over in my carry on and personal item before letting me go.

I fly an insane amount of miles a year...one of the best things I hve found with tokens is to put them in a packing cube and inside your carry on...take out the packing cube prior to the scanner...make sure some tokens are in a transparent sleeve on top...so they can recognize it...the key is they recognize it...if they do, you get the bomb swab scan of it and you are done...about a minute...be nice, tell them how cool the game is and typically, they write it down and research it for their own personal interest. TSA peeps are human...just good conversation makes them easier to manage

When I flew out of Dayton yesterday the TSA agent had already seen a fair few number of Tokens so he was easily able to identify what they were just in the scanner. What was amazing to me was that I explained to him what they were and what they were for, and about the game and he was truly amazed he’s been playing dungeons and dragons for a long time I had never heard of True Dungeon. So I gave him one of the cards and invited him to look up the website and potentially join us at Gen Con. So it was a very good interaction and I did not get harassed or hassled at all

I have a safe at my place.
trust me :)

One problem with taking tokens in carry on now days is they are starting to weight carry on baggage
a container of tokens builds up quickly in weight.

Here is what I know since I take a bag with 40-45lbs of tokens on a plane most every GenCon.

If you get a durable wheeled backpack, take that and put the tokens in. We worry about the luggage getting lost or delayed, so they never leave our sight. Going through security... Take them in a plastic container like a lure box where you can stack them on end. Never put them loose in a zip lock or bag, as the cores when jumbled about will always get flagged for a search. If they are on their side they may not get flagged. Go early to the airport and expect to get stopped. Tell the TSA they are like poker chips and have a steel core to them.

Link to something to ship them in:

Have you checked the Token DataBase ?

This +1.
The lesson is this - the game is rigged. The cards are stacked. The dice are loaded.
