TOPIC: Feedback for Improvements for True Dungeon

Feedback for Improvements for True Dungeon 4 years 8 months ago #13

I feel like I could definitely be guilty of helping too much on the puzzles. Perhaps I should say nothing. The idea of participating but not "finding" anything is something I will try at GHC.

I have taken to using whatever build I have ready, then making the 10's digit a 0. So my To hit and damage bonuses are 0-9. I don't lower my healing if I have it, but do lower spell damage. I don't lower my saves.

I also play a fun retribution build from virtually any class. That entertains me, and rarely breaks the game.

If I was the one who was on your run, I am truly sorry.

1. Don’t reveal that you know the solution - even having this knowledge causes other players to interpret your behavior differently.

Saying: “I know the answer and will give you hints if you ask.” Backfires more than it helps - it can make you look smug and like you’re lording it over them.

2. Don’t offer clues of any kind. It’s hard to judge what you’re giving away.

The worst thing I’ve ever seen in a dungeon was a huge man hulking over a petite woman repeating the same (unhelpful) clue over and over while she tried to figure out how to unlock a lock. It definitely wasn’t helping.

* of course it’s fine to offer the rogue clue if you’re the rogue.

3. Just stand around and ask: how can I help? what should I do? I’ll hold this end of the thing?

+1 - Good guidelines.

Would it be crazy to have maximum bonuses (say +10 on Normal, +20 on Hardcore)?

Maybe for players who are Nightmare equipped and end up in a Normal run, there's something that can be done to compensate them the lack of use of their build?

+1 Treasure, +20 HP, boosts to hand out to the Normal players, a special spell or ability that's otherwise unavailable, a Green character card, a "mutation" like wings or turning back-bumper slides into flank attacks or being able to transfer their HP to other players, or fastball special the Barbarian, or something? Like a slotless "Wonder" power that depends on year, con, and adventure?
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

I see what you mean, but I'm not sure I agree with this one because of how it degrades in edge cases. I think it would be frustrating to discover at the end of a run that I was literally the only person in my party trying to solve all the puzzles. In that position I think I would want to work on it myself for at least half the time, but then have the *choice* to ask for a hint if I wasn't getting anywhere and wasn't having fun.

I like taking a quick "who has already seen this dungeon?" poll in the coaching room so we all know where we all stand.

Yes, my AC is lower than the Wizard's. No regrets!
