Well, the airport in Madison closes. I didn't know that. So I ended up sleeping in a stairwell in the parking garage.

Madison is cold. So very cold.

I have a spare bedroom if any of you're stuck please don't sleeping a stairwell please call.

Thanks James that's a very generous offer :)

I wasn't really 'stuck' - I just didn't want to go to get a hotel room for 5 hours :pinch:

Yes - if this was a weekend when the Badgers were playing in town, there would be way less hotel availability.

Gamehole has grown every year since inception, and the last few years have seen explosive attendance growth (and with that, con space growth has followed). Most people aren't deterred by the weather.

Also.
if it's above 30, it's shorts weather, y'all.

I may be biased, but I would attribute the recent explosive attendance growth to TD.

The reason for shorts is because of how hot people keep the inside when it's cold outside. A little cold when going in is worth it to me to be completely comfortable all day inside.

TD was a big jump, but they had expanded from the Sheraton to convention center, the year before TD was there. So they were expanding. It is one of the best run cons. easy to get a badge. easy to get tickets. no server errors etc.

Having attended every year since TD started there I'd say all of the above plus a much more casual environment and access to the guests. In fact, Patrick Rothfuss is usually walking around and this year my pal Mike Wittwer will be there promoting his awesome book "Dungeons & Dragons: Art and Arcana." https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Art-Arcana-History/dp/0399580948/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1540918721&sr=8-2&keywords=art+and+arcana

That looks really cool,
Looks like I might have to get myself one
For Christmas.

I got the special edition one. It's awesome.

I wander if it’s still available,
I would like to buy the S.E. If possible.

They should have run the Con,
October 18-21 well enough away
From Halloween, and on average
10 degrees warmer.

I support the idea but you should write the owners of GHC.

Thanks

Earliest measurable snow in Madison - October 6th
Earliest trace of snow - September 28.

It's Wisconsin. Deal with it.

I'd rather walk in snow than near freezing rain. When can you guarantee me snow? ;)

In 2016 Madison didn't have snow until December 4th. So something like that.

The more snow the less likely people
Are going to want to drive there and Madison is not cheap to fly to.
I will talk to someone, at least the guy
That I pick up my badge from.
It’s not GC, so I’m sure if not one of the
Owners he at least knows them quite well
And can pass along the Idea.

Let’s see there is Wisconsin football. If that’s the same weekend hotels will
Be
Higher

Oh
And
There are concerts and other things at the convention center.

I believe they looked into it. It fluctuates yearly because of
Football. They want to
Keep
The costs
Down

We only had one year so far it was -20 but otherwise it has been tolerable.

He will have books for sale at the con as well. Not sure how the on-site price will compare to Amazon though. https://www.gameholecon.com/events/event/7582

Just don't do what Wizards of the Coast/ChannelFireball Events did and schedule Grand PrixMagicFest Madison 2019 for graduation weekend.

The only weather I really care about is what it's going to be like during the three hours of Community Day on Saturday.

Now they are saying to expect 1 to 3 inches of snow on Friday. Yes, it's Wisconsin, but this will likely be the first snowfall of the year. The roads will be slick and some drivers will just not be used to it yet. If you're driving, be careful out there.
