I'd really like to see Sunday runs resumed. At these prices the increase in revenue should be well worth it. And the requirement for even part time volunteers to help teardown on Sunday morning is making me reconsider volunteering.

I think the thing before is that I went on a ton of runs to do weird party runs like bloody nightmare or other fun themed runs for the vets. For gencon vets were buying more runs then other people could possibly get into. It makes sense from that stand point. Its a balancing act because gencon will still have 4 runs but one of them will be a newbie style run like 2009 had with the thieves guild newbie run. I am trying to figure out what this change is meant to accomplish, my best guess is more content > # of runs. In the end I think I can agree but you get less of the fun 5 man runs or themed runs etc. Is that a bad thing, I don't think so because it will move over to the smaller cons. For people who come to gencon for true dungeon only I think we will see a decline for better value elsewhere. For those who want to play a round or two at of true dungeon or not have TD take up their entire con at gencon I think they are the winners here. Either way Jeff does an amazing amount of work into this and I don't see the entire picture but I have enjoyed the expansion and changes I know not everyone will think of it like I do.

Even for origins I have asked if I could move my volunteer for sunday to a different day of the week because I have a close to 12 hour drive on wed to get in and to get home. I looked at flights and there are not any good flights for me because I either have to take a flight from columbus to chicago and miss that last connection to madison and take a bus up there and still almost a 14 hour travel day or drive.

I am considering the same, making it a day trip Saturday. I would do PAX South instead (and still GHC and Origins).
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I think we will still do GenCon as our primary due to seeing a lot of friends there, but since we are 90 minutes away from PAX South if it comes there we may be hitting that up if we can't make GenCon or to get another TD fix :)

Also for the wife and I this change from 4 dungeons to 3 is helpful as we do 2-3 runs of each dungeon each year but I know we are in the minority. We will have time do so something else at GenCon.

2016 - 10 runs and 1 Grind

2017 - 9 runs and 1 Grind

2018 - 6-8 runs and 1 Grind?

The initial Facebook reactions were just as thoughtful, reasoned and courteous. But after the initial rush, things have died down.

As I noted in another post, my wife is a huge Disney fan. Trust me, the online reaction to any Disney price increase is much more vociferous. Yet the parks are still filled.

The Gen Con experience for me has been sliding of late. I used to be into more games, but little by little more of my time and energy has moved to TD. Now it's about 80% of what I do at Gen Con. Considering the hotel prices and difficulty getting a downtown hotel along with the TD price increase and the assumed difficulty in getting tickets, I'm leaning more towards the other cons. My plans for this year are already set, but as I plan for next year, If I have to scale back on a con, Gen Con is likely the one I will skip. When you consider that GHC and Origins are also offering 3 dungeons and 3 days of adventuring, it just makes economical sense. I haven't seriously considered PAX South yet, but it does come with advantage of being a southern location during a cold month. Things to think about.

Ticket sales in April and May will tell us a lot more about how these changes have impacted interest. I think the results will be good for TD.

For sure...

I begin to wonder if it wouldn't have been better to stage the announcement:

Announcement 1: Bigger, better dungeons at Gen Con and elswhere! 3 New Stories instead of 2!

...pause...

Announcement 2: FYI tix will be $78 at Gen Con this year.

Right now I think the content of announcement 1 is being lost because so much of the discussion is around part 2.

It's a tough pitch, for sure. Announcement 1 is a huge positive.

imho, it does not outweigh the enormous negative of -2,000 tickets.
