Due to space restrictions at Gen Con we will not be able to present this adventure there at Gen Con. The Astral adventure is a prequel to the adventures seen at Gen Con, and it tells the story of how the party got from the Standing Stones outside the Waystone Inn to the edge of the Bliss. This Astral adventure will not have a puzzle or combat version...just one version with 4 combat and 3 puzzle rooms.

I am sorry for the late decision here. It is a very long story. Thanks for your patience and support. The great news is that there will be THREE new concurrent adventures this year. Hopefully you can make it to Origins, Gamehole Con or PAX South (if we do PAX South again).

The conversation on the thread has been about the requirement to go to multiple conventions to get max XP this next year. But that isn't really accurate.

Per this announcement, the max XP would be 6K, and you could get that by going to any of the non-GENCON conventions.

It seems wrong that GENCON is the largest and by far longest established convention for True Dungeon, and yet is the only one that you can't earn the full XP for the year. I do hope Jeff finds a way to address that today.

Actually, if that quote about 6K is true, one could only earn that at Origins, not at GC, not at GHC, not at Pax South.

I don't think it is in TDs best interests to have max XP available at any single con to be honest! I would support a plan where one has to attend GC and another con to get it all, if supporting GC is truly what is needed here. I say this as someone who will very likely be missing GC for the first time in 23 years this year. It isn't about me, or what is best or easiest for me. It is about what is best for the long term health of TD. I don't have a clue what that is, but I'm happy to give some ideas as to why I think what I think.

Maybe one could earn "max xp" from any 2 cons rather than GC and one other?
Should there be a "max xp" at all?
What if in order to earn max xp, you also had to be at least a part time volunteer?
I don't necessarily love all of these ideas, and some of them would be very difficult for me, but it would ultimately be my choice.

And that is the key. If XP is that important, make the drive from Indy to Origins. Take the time off work, volunteer to save on costs, and then play in your off time. Jeff and Co are making it easier to do this by holding some of the runs for volunteers.

It's clear from the passion on the threads that it is important to a lot of people.

It reminds me of the cartoon someone posted on the forums once. Sisyphus was doomed to eternally push a boulder up the hill, only to have it roll back down every time, repeating endlessly. He was understandably depressed, until he he became thrilled when he found out he could earn XP for each time he pushed it up the hill. :)

That was me. If you recall, Zeus descibed it as a "meaningless counter." ;)

That's it! I love that cartoon, I'd think most gamers would agree with it. And it describes the appeal of XP far better than I could. :)

also it is not 2007 anymore. Other cons have sprung up. How is it wrong? not to have it there. If you want full XP you will find a way to get it.

This should be a draw for other conventions. If the other conventions do better, TD does Better. That means cooler designs etc for all of us. Stop thinking about XP and think about TD and the future. It could be glorious. Gen Con doesnt give TD the space it needs. The other cons are. How is that fair. You should be on the Gen con forums and not here, trying to get more space for TD

+1 to this. And sorry Mike, but none of your posts make much sense. At least to me they don't. All you're trying to do is protect your rank on the XP leaderboard vs. thinking about what's best for TD and what's most equitable to all players. As Laz said, it's not 2007 anymore..

Rob, agree to disagree. I don't see how a solution that isn't equitable to the largest group of players seems to you to be equitable to all players.

I don't disagree that this policy might drive more attendance at other conventions. I just think there are better ways to do it.

You keep personalizing this to me, but there are thousands of GENCON players that will be at a disadvantage. If Jeff decides that's worth it, then that's obviously his decision. It's a poor debate tactic to undercut my position by saying I only care about myself. I could easily say the same thing about you only wanting to gain ground on the XP leader board.

I totally understand that it's not 2007 (or whatever random year you want to choose) anymore, and that there are lots of conventions with True Dungeon. I just don't think players at some conventions should be treated preferentially over others.

And, again, I agree to disagree.

Just one point
You asserted earlier that the policy of new experience for a completely new Dungeon is unfair for “largest group of players”.
In fact the ones arguing to not move forward and change are the smallest group.
There are Thousands of players who are not at the top of the leader board.
I’m curious what you thought about my previous post in which I offered a solution I thought was reasonable for all involved trying very hard to keep my personal opinions muted?
Thanks

I suggested some possible solutions which I like better, but it's good for there to be lots of options for Jeff to consider.

If we put it to a vote,
One email per account.
It would not be even close.
95% would say as Jeff has already planned it out or it’s a great ideal.

And 5% would be like, No them other cons need to stay as is, other players and their crews that make it out to them should not even get 1XP extra for going,
And helping to grow the game.
That way I don’t even have to think twice about going to one of them.

While that might be so, only a fraction of registered users have participated in this discussion and registered users are only a fraction of the player base. I'm going to put my trust in Jeff to do what is best for the future.

Very true, and the percentage of players on the forums that go to multiple conventions is probably a LOT higher than that of the overall player base. I'm sure Jeff realizes that the comments on the forums aren't really reflective of the overall player base.
