I don't know that I'm on board with XP for every ticketed dungeon run.

Would that include ghosted runs? Do we want to further incetivize that?

Would it negatively impact volunteering? If I volunteer at GHC two runs is the most I can feasibly do. And that only with some flexibility from the Coordinators. Others are doing many.

Does it start to feel like "pay to win?"

Isn’t TD already “pay to win” with token purchases?

That is one way to look at it.

But ever since they did away with Treasure rooms, the runs to me have just been more about having fun. I know survival is important to a number of people, but I'm hoping we don't lose focus on fun. It is still a game and if anyone is really getting upset about any of this they may want to consider another hobby.

All the rooms will be brand new -- and pretty dang cool. XP is available for this adventure, so if you want to get max XP you need to play this adventure at either Origins or Gamehole Con (and other Cons we do other than Gen Con). Due to space restrictions at Gen Con we will not be able to present this adventure there at Gen Con. The Astral adventure is a prequel to the adventures seen at Gen Con, and it tells the story of how the party got from the Standing Stones outside the Waystone Inn to the edge of the Bliss. This Astral adventure will not have a puzzle or combat version...just one version with 4 combat and 3 puzzle rooms.

I am sorry for the late decision here. It is a very long story. Thanks for your patience and support. The great news is that there will be THREE new concurrent adventures this year. Hopefully you can make it to Origins, Gamehole Con or PAX South (if we do PAX South again).

The conversation on the thread has been about the requirement to go to multiple conventions to get max XP this next year. But that isn't really accurate.

Per this announcement, the max XP would be 6K, and you could get that by going to any of the non-GENCON conventions.

It seems wrong that GENCON is the largest and by far longest established convention for True Dungeon, and yet is the only one that you can't earn the full XP for the year. I do hope Jeff finds a way to address that today.

also it is not 2007 anymore. Other cons have sprung up. How is it wrong? not to have it there. If you want full XP you will find a way to get it.

This should be a draw for other conventions. If the other conventions do better, TD does Better. That means cooler designs etc for all of us. Stop thinking about XP and think about TD and the future. It could be glorious. Gen Con doesnt give TD the space it needs. The other cons are. How is that fair. You should be on the Gen con forums and not here, trying to get more space for TD

You seem to be saying two things, both that XP is unimportant, while at the same time it's important enough to drive people to other conventions. You can't have it both ways.

Personally, I think it's possible to grow True Dungeon at the other conventions without screwing the thousands of True Dungeon players at GENCON. I suspect the majority of people in favor of other conventions offering more XP than GENCON are those already planning on attending a non-GENCON convention.

We're definitely not on the same page on this issue, but that's OK, diversity of opinion is good. It gives Jeff more food for thought.

i am saying 2 things..it is unimportant to me...i would like to get away from it and just do rewards level. But since it is D&D based, it is called XP to go with the flow

as a coach i have to argue what XP means with newer players every year. I am 5th level XP so I get 5th level player card

yes the top players (if they want to stay top for "elite" status) need to attend more.
I only want XP for the rewards. that is it. it means nothing to me but that.
yes it can be used to get players that dont have those rewards to play.

we are not even in the same book

you still havent answered...Why is XP so important

+1 to this. And sorry Mike, but none of your posts make much sense. At least to me they don't. All you're trying to do is protect your rank on the XP leaderboard vs. thinking about what's best for TD and what's most equitable to all players. As Laz said, it's not 2007 anymore..

Chad, it's pretty tough to explain to someone who finds something to be unimportant why others find it more important, especially since different people probably have different reasons.

It's clear from the passion on the threads that it is important to a lot of people.

It reminds me of the cartoon someone posted on the forums once. Sisyphus was doomed to eternally push a boulder up the hill, only to have it roll back down every time, repeating endlessly. He was understandably depressed, until he he became thrilled when he found out he could earn XP for each time he pushed it up the hill. :)

Rob, agree to disagree. I don't see how a solution that isn't equitable to the largest group of players seems to you to be equitable to all players.

I don't disagree that this policy might drive more attendance at other conventions. I just think there are better ways to do it.

You keep personalizing this to me, but there are thousands of GENCON players that will be at a disadvantage. If Jeff decides that's worth it, then that's obviously his decision. It's a poor debate tactic to undercut my position by saying I only care about myself. I could easily say the same thing about you only wanting to gain ground on the XP leader board.

I totally understand that it's not 2007 (or whatever random year you want to choose) anymore, and that there are lots of conventions with True Dungeon. I just don't think players at some conventions should be treated preferentially over others.

And, again, I agree to disagree.

Don't feel bad , Chad. He never answered mine either, about how having Max XP available at GC without going to other cons was good for TD.

I can hazard a guess as to why XP is important. It demonstrates loyalty and longevity. In addition to the tangible rewards that we all get, some people derive a sense of pride, satisfaction, or whatever you want to call it from knowing that they were there first, doing it the longest, etc. A subset of those also feel that when others see it, hence the leaderboard. It's the same reason video games have a high score where you can put your name or initials.

That said, while having a leaderboard may be good, having one that can not change because of artificial limits makes no sense to me, and doesn't seem to allow a level playing field.

I think the idea of a "hall of champions" is a good one.

I am very interested in whether or not XP for every run is a good idea. It might spur a small group of players to try even harder to get all the tickets, which would then limit new growth. I'm not sure this would happen, but it is possible. We might also lose some volunteers. Just something to consider.
