Well this certainly ramps up my origins plans.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

The biggest benefit goes to the newer players who make more cons. They gain player levels and associated perks quicker.

To a lesser extent, those who have been around a moderate amount of time, and I count myself there, also see some benefit as those higher levels take longer and longer to reach, and this helps.

The downside as I see it is for those who have been playing since day one, and have to travel a long way. If I were one of the three players currently at the top of the “Top Players” list, I imagine watching someone else leapfrog in front of me would be a bitter pill.

Not suggesting they’re immature enough to rage-quit over it, and I’m not sure what can be done about it. The times, they are a-changin’.

But, in my mind, Raven, Arcbat, and Candace (and in spite of our differences of opinion, Mike Steele is a close fourth) will always be the top players, regardless of what the numbers may say in a few years.

There should be a similar “Top Volunteers” list. (I’d be on it, but waaay down there.) I’m not suggesting any perks, but without vols there would be no players at all. But that’s off topic.

Regardless, :woohoo: on new adventure.

Brad, thanks for that.

It is a bitter pill indeed. I don't expect to be able to make a non-GENCON adventure (nor will anyone in my group, including the 9th ranked player), so it's very disheartening to have exclusive XP outside of GENCON. It certainly does remove the incentive to continue to do all the Dungeons. It would be nice if there could still be some sort of max XP per year, that could continue to be achieved at GENCON. Personally, I'd be happy to give up the entire GENCON storyscape if it meant this astral adventure could be done there.

Biggest benefit going to newer players because they make more Cons? Huh? I guess I don't get that. Everyone has equal opportunity to go to every Con. So if new player A makes more Cons and plays more TD then veteren player B they should get more XP. If the vet makes more Cons and plays more TD they should get more XP. Simple.

I'm just stoked that we get a whole new adventure. Makes me more pumped for TD at Origins.

Very exited and my wallet is crying, looking to buy Origin TD tickets in April and usually Gencon come May. Time to move a few other things around at those are going to be 2 expensive months.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I can't speak for Brad, but the way I see it - newer players will see the benefits in a more immediate way. As a little XP goes a lot farther for them.

Should I be worried about not being able to book a slot for my wife and me @ Astral Journey? I got an Adventurer's Guild Badge, but it sounds like Patrons might be in the market to book entire runs solid with this news.

Thanks for all the feedback. Nothing will change as announced yesterday at Origins Game Fair (Astral is new) but someone gave me an idea about Gen Con.

I am sitting in the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom in Orlando with some patient kids. Let me think about this and post late tonight.

Time to have fun.

Jeff, I hope you and the kids have a wonderful time at Magic Kingdom! Are you going to be doing Epcot and/or Animal Kingdom? Those are my favorites of the Disney parks. :)

Jeff, I'm not sure if this is what you're considering, but it would be great if you could reduce the footprint of stuff like the storyscape to fit in the Astral Adventure at GENCON. It would be a 25% increase in revenue for True Dungeon to have five Dungeons instead of four. Even if you can't do that, maybe you could just do one version of one of the other Dungeons and fit in the Astral Adventure. If you can only fit in four total Dungeons at GENCON, having three unique ones (with two versions of one of them) is better than just two (with two versions of each), especially since you'll already have done all the development and construction work on it at Origins. :)

I agree it would be nice to have 3 different dungeons at GC. I think your proposal of 1 less of the other dungeons is just going to make tickets to it and Astral even harder to get as tickets to GC dungeons are already difficult. Not saying it shouldn't be done but just making sure you are aware that would be a ramification. Currently you are using fighting folks to just 2 dungeons. Now you are fighting folks to get 3 dungeons and less tickets for 2 of those dungeons. Again not saying it shouldn't be done, just there are ramifications.

My ideal proposal would be to cut back on the footprint of non-Dungeon stuff and fit in both versions of the two new Dungeons plus the Astral Adventure Dungeon. The fallback proposal would be to replace one version of one of the Dungeons with the Astral Adventure Dungeon. I do understand that it would make tickets for the two Dungeons with just one version even harder to get - although I expect a near instant sellout again in any case. :)
