Someone assumed everyone knew the answer to a puzzle because everyone had been on the run. It was very disappointing to had the answer given to us on something we had spent multiple runs on trying to figure out.

I will still be working on E3 room 6 at GHC and have avoided all discussions of it.

There were 3 puzzles that hit rather hard this year. I can't remember which one was E3 room 6 but I am fairly sure it's one of the 3 I had issue with.

Solved two of them with my group, had the third one ruined by another person who'd been on the run before me.

One of them was an assist from the room GM with a small hint after we'd 90% solved it.

Good vibes on finishing up that final puzzle :)

Agreed.

And the opposite as well: Don't believe that someone is deliberately spoiling the puzzle just because they've done the run before. They may not have arrived at the correct answer.... or might have been unable to participate for some reason.

I ran into that one year when I was doing the Rogue box, & missed 90% of the party solving the room (They even told me "Take the treasure! We don't need the clue! We've got this!") ... so when I ran the room the second time with a different group, and made a suggestion in the room, someone shouted at me "THanks for Spoiling it for us!!" ... I was rather taken aback, since it was literally my first attempt at solving the room. I was asked not to participate in solving the room since I "knew" it, when I didn't. Frustrating... but since I knew I had a 3rd run coming up still, I just sat it out & ignored the puzzle solving. (For what it's worth, i was able to explain things later in the run, and we all sorted things out.)

I guess it comes down to Communication.

“Who has solved this puzzle before?” Is an excellent way to start any puzzle room.

As Raven said, communicate.

not so good with puzzles and memory not so good either.

that said, multiple runs or not, I usually can't help on puzzles.

but I do have a crapton of hp. so if the group needs to randomly touch stuff... think of a bug light, i'm your barbarian.

I can confirm everything Smakdown just typed is true. After running with Smakdown for the last 3 years full time and doing 15 runs at Gen Con with Smakdown - he can't do puzzles! However, he does like to roam the room touching things, especially if the things are shiny.

The wands and green smoke wall was interesting with Smakdown - that is all I'm going to say about that!

Unless I need to actively participate or the entire party has taken puzzle damage twice I don't interfere. I think the snarkest I got was a redux run and two different people randomly touched lamps and I was like for the love of god stop touching things before you figure out the puzzle :-). I didn't want to die in room 1.

In my first E1 run at West, I played dumb...

...so dumb even some vets didn't realize I'd beaten the puzzles before!

I actively listened, repeated some things the newbies said, and when they had the info to shut down a wrong path, I would say, "well, THAT can't work because X," so they would get off the wrong track, but never gave any insider info.
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

I even go one step further,
As soon as the room starts
I let them know, I know it and I’m
Not helping,
If near the end of the room if most people
Are like come on help us I will, otherwise
I will take the damage and move on,
I’m cool with anything other then
Hearing “You ruined the room for me”
Skip that!

I will swear by telling the room GM the solution and explaining that you don't want people to lose but you also don't want to spoil the room for people who haven't solved it. I have yet to have a GM not take that as a solution to avoid push damage and it seems to work really well for groups
