TOPIC: Relic recipe fragment

First off let me say that I love this - regardless of how good the effect or end result of the fragments are. The hunt for them, the puzzle of the riddle, the community collaboration... this is what makes TD fun!

There's so many ways in which to think about this: if it's only 6 fragments the effect won't be grand, like others have said - when compared to last year's charms, it was 10 tokens and their effect wasn't what people expected. However...

Edwin, I tend to agree with your theory. The text on the token says "This is only a piece of a piece of the recipe. Find the rest!" So for all purposes these first 6 fragments make up 1 piece of the recipe. Of which there could be multiple pieces to complete. Then the stakes get higher because the Charms of Transmorph were only 10 total, but potentially this could be many more than 10 depending on how many pieces total it takes to complete the relic recipe and how many fragments it takes to complete each piece.

At that point we could be talking about something major, maybe something like the treasure map fragments and looting for a special treasure box, having a new recipe to make a previously transmutable items, a recipe for a new relic or the incredibly mysterious arcane recipes of 2009-2011.

Even so a massive years long epic quest for an arcane recepie sounds like a lot of fun even if it isnt likely to happen

Keep in mind that as a recipe, you probably need to actually acquire ingredients. So a direct comparison to the Charms of Transmorph seems unwise.

Mayb the fragments display the places Td has been or going to be.

1. California
2. Texas
3. Carbondale
4. Ohio
5. Wisconsin
6. An unannounced location

I agree with Fiddy and Starkhound, and speculate that you'll turn in these fragments to get a recipe for a 5-point relic, and that relic will take large amounts of trade goods to transmute. It would be interesting if you had to find more than one page of this recipe (meaning multiples of 6 fragments). Then, possibly down the road, that relic can be transmuted into a legendary. Or... if it turns out that there are more "pages" of the recipe to find... maybe it leads to several items to transmute, culminating in an Eldritch Relic a la the Rod of Seven Parts?

BUT, regardless of the ultimate outcome, the hunt and speculation are loads of fun!

Wild speculation feels appropriate and is a lot of fun.

It will be interesting to see if these 6 end up being listed differently in the tokendb, or if the requirement is just 6 relic recipe fragments, and we all tried to balance them unnecessarily.

I think that this speculation, even if these have already been decided, will fuel future ideas for surprise tokens and future fun

Honestly it could be something as simple as a box only trade good or an alternative to some of the monster bit requirements in next years recipes (if you add the rough volumes of 2019bits and fragments you get a lot closer to the 20% we were expecting). Could be anything, but.... I hope its something more fun

Could be that a set of relic fragments are just a golden fleece replacement? That would be probably the most boring option, though, right?

I suspect that there will be new information at www.truedungeon.com/transmuted at some point (maybe before Gen Con maybe the first day of Gen Con maybe after Gen Con). Could be very wrong about that but figure it is printed on the token it should mean something.
