I am in southern Arizona so I would love to see it on the West Coast but you have to consider how many people are going to be able to take vacation and get transportation out to the West Coast at this point

The volunteer issue is s great point that I had not even considered. Heck the main reason I am volunteering at pax south is to help make it viable in Texas. And there is a limit to how far I am willing to go just to volunteer. I would probably be willing to drive up to 8 hours on a volunteer event.

I'd volunteer at Pax South, but the cost of getting there is the barrier.

There are plenty of people who could and would volunteer out here.

I would think that, in theory at least, the easiest place in the US to find actors/actresses and A/V personnel would be in southern California. I'm not sure if its been explored before, but it would seem to be a good match.

Does anyone have a good understanding of the overlap in interests between something like the Comicon crowd and TD enthusiasts? Do things like escape rooms do well there?

That's my issue, I looked at that drive and just couldn't pull it off. Same issue i have with GHC, especially with vol schedules as they're now for small cons.

I thought unions were a big issue the last time TD was done in California?

I never herd anything about that, but that makes a lot of sense. I have herd of unions pulling some stunts at cons in the past when it comes to set up. It probably is easier to do something like TD in a right to work state where you don’t have anyone who really cares what they are doing.

www.absoluteiandd.com/union-rules/southern-california-trade-show-union-rules/

The Decorators Union claims jurisdiction over all set-up and dismantling of exhibits including signs and laying of carpet. This does not apply to the unpacking and placement of your merchandise. You may install and/or dismantle your exhibit display if one person, who is a full time employee of the exhibiting firm, can accomplish the task in an hour or less without the use of tools.

If your exhibit preparation, installation, or dismantling requires more than 1 hour, you must use union personnel supplied by either the general contractor, or your independent contractor of choice, such as Absolute I&D.

Exhibitors may hand-carry in what they can handle with one person in one trip. The use or rental of dollies, flat trucks and other mechanical equipment, however, is not permitted. Teamsters are responsible for all additional freight moving. The general contractor will control access to the loading docks and control the unloading and reloading of all vehicles at the loading docks. Only full time employees of the exhibiting company will be allowed to hand carry items.

Electricians are responsible for all electrical installations and connections. Exhibitor provided cords must be a minimum of 14 gauge 3 wire with ground and must be flat when used for floor work. All multi-outlet devices such as power strips must have circuit protection.

So i can use my TD build/teardown volunteer as a resume entry for a job change?
