There certainly is no indication of understanding or inclination to fix being displayed over on the GenCon official forums.

Yep, more head in the sand and no inclination that this is a problem from Gen Con staff.

For a premier event and fact that likely (actually would like but never will) TD players as a category spend an otherwise absurd money on events. I was watching the 'ring the bell' thread on a facebook group and thinking all those that think 200 is money never met TD. I was glad i only had to buy 2 full runs instead of 3 and i don't consider myself a 'big' TD spender.

We should not be the test group, or at least have a paper backup.

We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I'm coaching in the daytime. But I have no runs Thursday evening and only an 8pm Grind Saturday.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

Great Ideal team work.
If you get stiffed by a player in your group last Min,
Just ask anyone in the Area that’s just
Chilling or coming out of a run, assuming
There not running back to back,
to let you use there badge for a quick scan.

Again - just be careful if anyone tries this - and personally I'd clear it with Jeff first. If the True Dungeon policy is no Ghost Players, then even if you game the system at the Registration Desk, you might not get any compensation for the Ghost Players at the Exit Desk.

I’ve seen a lot on this forum over the years: discussions, debates, arguments, fights, tantrums... but never mutiny.

That says something.

If we can find out what the steps are after checking and how it ends up at the end it would help make this easier.

Thoughts for slogans for T-shirts:

The ride is over but it has been a good ride while GenCon was Epic Level Gaming for True Dungeon.

[Courtesy of jwlarson (edited a bit) ]Trying to run the largest event at the Con which has precise timing requirements with a new and untested system is just begging for a disaster of Epic Level Gaming proportions

OK, thanks. My bad in assuming that the implementation would be before August.

I hope it will be, but I have no timeline for when that will be implemented.

The “GenCon” Electronic Ticket System allows for returns up to 30 minutes before an event starting time.

The same system allows for a download of status and who has tickets in case the recipient losses a connection and will reconcile the different when a connection is re-established.

Scenario that may play out:
  • TD downloads the status and who has tickets for the day.
  • TD gets intermittent or no signal
  • TD player looks for extras and returns tickets about 45 minutes before the run
  • TD players goes to check-in and has no signal for cell.
  • At check-in TD player is told they still have 10 tickets.
  • Not wanting to lose money the TD players gets extras and goes on the adventure.
  • TD later gets a signal and during reconcile discovers that only 5 tickets were available for use and only gets reimbursement for 5 tickets.

My intent was not mutiny nor in any way circumventing Jeff’s will in any way, rather to be helpful to those who have already bought tickets and under a flawed ticketing system.

As upset as I am over this (or is frustrated a better word?), I won’t try to circumvent if it is against the rules. I am not comfortable trying to “gain the system” even though it is GenCon’s fault, I will loose the $150 restocking fee first.

Now, if Jeff and GenCon approve a work around due to their programmers/designers incompetence, than I will participate... but I am not comfortable breaking rules... not in my genetic makeup.

I do understand your perspective. But, if Jeff says that there won't be any Ghost Players at GENCON, and people are trying to figure out a way to still do Ghost Players, that is trying to circumvent the current True Dungeon policy. I totally agree that the core problem is the way the electronic ticketing system will work, but the current ban on Ghosting at GENCON was from Jeff. I would bet he's trying to figure out a way right now to make it work out. Jeff is more focused on customer satisfaction and doing right by his customers than anyone I've ever met.
