Perhaps, but the highlighted words indicate the flaw in that argument. There are a LOT of folks who literally have zero street smarts.

I'm more of a tarmak smarts kinda guy .. usually after bouncing off it.

Don't be hard on yourself, experience always comes after the fact. I was hit with a MAC truck in 2007 & 2008.

I misread this the first time and I thought SMACKDOWN had hit you. Turns out though that he can 1 shot kill most party members if he accidentally hits you. Good times.

JACKOFTRADZE I respect your opinion but disagree. It is NEVER a victim's responsibility to not be victimized in my opinion. You cannot say they were asking to be swindled because they didn't do research ahead of time to learn about the game ahead of time. Or that because they did not have "street smarts" to spot a swindler that it is partly their fault. I vehemently disagree with that.

Just because we cannot stop all "Token Predators" doesn't mean we should attempt to prohibit their actions as much as possible. I don't think you are saying that but it sounds close.

I think it is human nature to judge an experience off your first experience. I don't think there is anything ignorant about it. If it seems to you that the first person you deal with after pulling treasure is a swindler then there is nothing ignorant about thinking that it may be common.

Oh...I am quite familiar with his damage, I ran with him before and I will be running with him at GC this year. I will be sure to stay out of his way if he gets charmed, thanks for the warning!

(Before I respond know that I am not arguing with you, I am just injecting a different point of view. For my part, know there is no malice towards you from me. I view this as a reasonable and lively debate.)

I never said it should not be tried, I just said that you are never going to stop it 100% and that I do not believe it's a major epidemic. A measured response should be implemented to try to hopefully get a large percentage of the potential predators to think twice before trying. Unfortunately, stupidity and greed win the day more often then we like to admit. While being slightly facetious, I was offering up a real suggestion of the "Know your Treasure" poster to help stop token predators. I think a simple thing like the poster can go a long way.

I agreeably disagree with you on the personal responsibility part when it comes to this token swindling situation, I do not condone any of this but as I pointed out from my own experiences, I invited some of it in. I do not believe in the victim mentality or blaming others for the actions of the selfish. Maybe it's me, I would never blame TD Adventures for an unaffiliated persons actions. If I did I would not be still playing 10 years later. My first experience was what you described, everyone has different outlooks maybe I expect too much. I am a glass half full/empty kind of guy.

I do appreciate your passion to prevent this and I am not against trying, just don't let it ruin your fun!

I really dislike this type of behavior!

For Origins i followed the rules about lending CoA's... every run my party had full treasure.

I didn't even stick around for the epilogue room nor treasure pulls.. except my last run on Saturday night I saw what a family of first timers pulled... the daughter pulled a UR of Mail of Redoubt! Since I lent them my CoA's and Ioun Stone Silver Nugget she pulled 18 instead of three... she said she felt she should offer the UR to me... which I of course refused saying she should use it at the next True Dungeon event herself!

I explained that by her borrowing my CoA's I already was "paid" by getting two extra pulls myself...

Seriously, you are always one of the most, if not, thee most generous players in TD. It's players like you that will always outshine the few greedy Token Trolls.

I agree totally! I heard this from several reestablish sources that Mongo was equipping his PUG parties with real COA's (I even felt guilty checking them every time through) and Nuggets, and getting his tokens first in the epilogue room then leaving for his next run without even giving the other players a chance to repay him anything. Also, it should be noted that he and Dave, and Jedi, and Master Ed, and several others bought tickets on many runs. Their support of TD is very admirable.

Be sure to get a second opinion if someone instantly offers you cash for a token you pull."

Unfortunately it is the nature of some people to try and profit on the ignorance of others.

Aside form that, I know at least 7 new people from my runs want to play TD again!

You did awesome feeling newbies on your runs about tokens. Thank you

What was Chris doing with the newbies???

After the 2nd or 3rd time of the day you see the guy you'd think i wouldn't have to check them. Felt a little guilty checking you Mongo but you had them every time and made my life much easier in training. Also personally it was appreciated an awesome that you were the 10th ticket on my newbie run.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Bear in mind I post this with only the best of intentions. I enjoy TD and love the community.

I agree that it is pathetic if anyone is tricking children.

I do not usually play the Paladin, but sometimes the bard is taken (great discussion! thank you Hawk)

There is a simple (and painful) solution to all of our woes.

Everyone should obey the rules of the convention, and I feel that it is the responsibility of True Dungeon Adventures to STEP UP. The Con loses money and the state loses money on the unpermitted transactions that are happening on the premises.

An excerpt from Gencon:

"Absolutely no selling, soliciting, or handbill distribution is allowed outside of rented booth spaces, unless such a distribution has been secured through an official Gen Con Event Marketing
Program or Sponsorship." OR "Companies, organizations, or individuals selling or promoting products or services at Gen Con must rent exhibit space and must confine such activities to the space so rented. Exceptions to this requirement must be obtained in writing from Show Management prior to the start of Gen Con."

" Exhibitors are solely responsible for paying all applicable city, county, state, and federal taxes on sales and promotional activities at Gen Con."

"Exhibiting companies may share booth space with other organizations pending Show Management approval. The primary or “host” company is responsible for completing a separate application for each guest or “share” company and for the payment of all booth fees and associated costs. Share companies will receive an allotment of exhibitor badges (two), and a listing in the Official Gen Con Show Guide. "

Also the posters I like that too.

Though beertam may have felt like he kept running into me, I only did each dungeon twice at Origins. One time through Friday and one time through Saturday.

Seeing everything twice is more than enough for me.
