New Magnetic Wand for token draws? Cool! 7 years 9 months ago #38

What is the theory for how someone might have sneaked common tokens in? Did they grab a handful of tokens, swap some of them for the commons they had snuck away, and then throw them back in? That seems difficult to do, but people can be pretty imaginative. Or is there another theory?

Maybe people got the tokens from the treasure box mixed in with their 10 pack from the run, and mistakenly thought they all came out of the treasure box?

My thought is that new players who don't intend to play True Dungeon again return their tokens to the treasure box, thinking that they're helping. Obviously, it's busy enough in the treasure draw area that we don't know the reason for certain, so I think that's definitely a possibility.

Is there a policy for this? If I draw a mortar & pestle from the treasure box, can I hand it in and draw again b/c there aren't supposed to be any commons?

I think you're right on that, Herid.

I'm not aware of anyone doing it in a malicious way. However, I've talked to (and seen) folks who think that by tossing their unwanted tokens into the box, they are recycling their unwanted items. I've even seen a volunteer minding the treasure chest find a random common on the floor, and drop it into the box (assuming it may have come from the box in the first place?)

Although I've never heard of any official policy on re-drawing treasure if you get a common by accident, I think it would make sense. I also recall a volunteer saying that's how he had handled it in the past.

I have pulled one common out of 200 or so pulls over the last two years. The volunteer let me pull another token.

I'm guilty of this.

Years ago before I became involved in Token collecting I never knew what was in the Treasure boxes. I just assumed they were every possible Token. So, when I had Tokens I didn't want/need I dumped them into the nearest Treasure Box thinking I was being generous. Obviously, now I know that was the wrong thing to do. For anyone a few years ago who drew a Common I do apologize. :(

I was fairly certain there actually was a re-draw policy and that is what in part the token box tenders were supposed to be checking for. But who knows, maybe I just dreamed that was a thing.

yes
But how well the policy is communicated is a whole different discussion.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

I didn't think it needed to be a big announcement because the commons aren't supposed to be in there in the first place, but its possible it wasn't mentioned strongly enough if we the avid board folks can't remember exactly there we saw it.

Good to know I didn't dream that up.

I did mention this in my longer comments, several posts back.

It would be nice if there was a bucket with a sign: "Experienced Players: Donate your unwanted tokens here. New Players only: take up to five tokens free"

That should keep well-meaning players from diluting the loot boxes

How I handle it with Plinko is I put them nearby and tell people, that stack is free if you want to grab some go for it.
I don't let people toss them back unless its a miscount and caught quickly. While my box does have commons they are at a very specific ratio and I can't allow that to be skewed against the player.

I think the new box design that Jeff has listed with the wand and the box of bags with zip ties should help identify and weed out those that want to "donate". The wand box looks like its very hard to put tokens back into it without it being very obvious and the box tender should stop them. Dumping into the bag box should be painfully obvious.
