I do like this option.Though it might encourage players to play chicken. Plus, if this happens with multiple classes (and multiple sets of people) it could get complicated....

if the run is at 7pm. classes picked then (you show up after 7pm, you get whats left)..
if people want to play the same class..roll off

Think we have a winner here. Best idea so far IMO.

Sure, if you want to spent 5 or 6 of the 24 minutes rolling dice rather than recording stats.

I would rather have this then first come first served. I get there 25 minutes early, classes already taken, and most of us sit there for 50 minutes twiddling our thumbs waiting for the training room. I don’t think adding “5 minutes of dice rolls” is that bad, though it would obviously need to be play tested.

It's not a problem for your, from the sound of it our hanging out with regenerated stats, it's a major problem for the coach who has to tally and record 10 people stats in 24 minutes. Realistically best case 4 minutes to explain things and roll, 2 minutes per person with zero buffer assuming someone is ready to go right away. I cant speak for others but I feel like this would cause more harm then good.

The point of the level 3 bonus is when there is a dispute among people who have arrived at the same time and need mediation. If they are both level 3+ then the dice and chance decide. This is how it must work. If you show up late, you get leftovers. We should encourage people to arrive early, especially if they are geared for only one class.

More posters explaining a lot of aspects of the game is always something I support.

I like playing the Rogue, not for the reason that others want it (treasure). I like to backstab and flank. When there was a discrepancy in the coaching room, the roll off is fine with me, whether it be level 1 or 10. That way it feels like there was an opportunity and that I did not have to arrive 2 hours early and stand outside of the coaching room, getting in the way.

I did make a deal to play the rogue and let the other person pull the treasure for themselves. It was win win.

Wait... I've got it gang! We solve this like we solve everything else in TD...

With Tokens!

We add a new "Class" slot... The standard 12 classes show up in your ten-packs. Clearly the more sought-after classes like Rogue, Monk, and Ranger are Rares, Fighter and Cleric are clearly Commons... and so on. Maybe some special classes show up as treasure-box only... We can even make a new type of trade good that comes from Class tokens.

We just need to make sure that every starter pack has a class token in it.

All you need to do is give people a heads up on the gencon site when signing up for runs, explaining that there may be a roll off if two people want the same class. That way there are no hard feelings when it happens.

I did pick the rogue and before placing tokens I offered to have a roll off for anyone that wants it.

The more I read, the more I'm in this camp (just add a poster explaining the current rule)

I still say have the event email direct them to the forums.

Classes worked out in the appropriate forum thread are considered set Since they were discussed/built/worked out in advance. If you don't come to the forum, you can pick from what is left.

Should the 3rd level player bonus be eliminated?
A. Yes!
B. Yes, and I have other ideas for how to further improve the process.
C. No, it's a good thing that 3rd+ level players can bump 1st-2nd level players and we should keep that.

I've seen a lot of good debate between A and many variations of B. The lack of clear consensus so far regarding a particular variation of B doesn't mean we should give up and pick C.
