As for ticket price, it's getting too high already. Surely there are other ways to raise funds with token or merchandise sales.

Perhaps some kind of token fundraiser on the store?

200 for 1 onyx (or get crazy and go purple) backed UR, procedes go to equipment?

We could do a bake sale gamers are always hungry or a raffle of some sort Jeff could be at check in but in Drag.

Just having some fun :)

I saw the demo at GHC and was blown away. Bravo, Ed. The potential here is a real “game changer” and allows the sliding tables to catch up to the set and prop improvements of recent years. I was so impressed that I would gladly pay $2+ more per run. That said, I understand the concerns about further ticket price increases. The crowdfunding idea is an intriguing solution.

Just bring back TD Tavern, charge a little extra extra for drinks.

Knowing some of the drinkers in this group, you'd get several thousand $ a day just from that.

I love the idea of incorporating more tech into the dungeon - however, due to the steep increase we saw last year, I would again have to strongly consider if it’s worth it to me.

I know I started going to Origins due to the decreased cost of runs.

If it would demand more revenue in order to fund, I’d rather than get drawn from somewhere else - hell, auction off an artifact slot each year, earmarked specifically for future Dungeon tech.

Or auction off the ability to have the next legendary carry your character name.

There are other ways to raise funds (specifically those that would be a one time expense + maintenance/transport) other than a perpetual cost increase.

Those are some great new ideas to bring
Some money into the game for this project.
Also maybe save some money on
Token packs.
Go down to 8 per pack.
Two less commons. Im guessing that would
Save .20 cents per pack.
And that should add up to a lot of saving
Maybe enough to cover this upgrade.
But tickets can’t go up again next year.

I’m not in favor of lowering tokens in packs because a large chunk of players will only have the 10 pack to play with. Also it might cause problems with transmutes that are unforeseen.

I liked the suggestion of doing a fundraiser token.

There is another post in another part of the forms talking about having some silly fun tokens, this could be a great way to do both.

I like the concept but i'm nearly if not at my personal break point on price and have already lost members that i used to regularly run with.

It's cool, it's shiny and has potential. It's got promise and i echo that's tech which is new fail points.

However i honestly rather see an improvement on overall sound systems as that's been a perennial and functionality complaint that's been growing past few years.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

From what I understand the Borg cube sound system is in the process of being replaced with a more modern pi driven solution already.

It is pretty common to talk to others while eating or playing other games about what other games you are playing. Almost every time I mention True Dungeon I get a response about how they want to do it but it is too expensive.
While I played D&D at GHC, I sat with a family of 3 who wanted to try out TD, but they told me for 3 people it was almost $180 and they just could not justify spending that much money, and frankly I understood where they were coming from.

Would I be willing to pay $2 more a ticket, maybe. But I am the wrong person to be talking to, we need to speak with new players, and prospective players. Is it the price that is driving people away? There are a lot of unsold tickets at GHC and at Origins, how many ticket sales will be lost with a price increase? Would using an electronic combat table actually bring in new players? I doubt it.

I also do not understand why there would need to be an on-going ticket price increase. Almost all of the costs should be up front. After it is paid for the rest should be maintenance, and to replace items that break. At Gen Con there were 8,000 tickets sold, at $2 extra a ticket, it would be $16,000 extra dollars, although I do not know how much of that the convention keeps. But how is one Gen Con not enough to pay for this or at least most of the expenses if it is not enough?

Making the entire combat process electronic, with a camera which detects the pucks and figures out hits, misses, calculates damage, etc automatically would be a major technology upgrade and would drastically change combat. That I could likely get behind paying extra for, but just having a TV screen displaying the monster, just does not feel that important on its own.

I agree that the price may be hindering some folks from joining. It's the returning players who are going to be Less price sensitive although, we did see several folks on the forums when the price increase was announced stating that they would no longer be playing due to the increase. We need more new players becoming returning players.
I would be really unhappy with a price increase. Would I quit playing? Not likely, I go to every Con but I definitely wouldn't be doing anymore GenCon runs. There seemed to be ample demand for tickets this year so my not playing would open up a very small amount of tickets to others, hopefully new players.
Also I agree that it should be a one time increase (if it does happen) rather than an ongoing.

TLDR:
I would say I like the table but not for an increased price. Perhaps in a couple of years once we all have adjusted to the recent price increase.

It's a bit of a shame that the discussion here is being dominated by prices.

Dungeon prices will go up, it's almost a given. They have gone up at Gen Con every year for what - the last 5 years (maybe there was one in there that didn't?)

It will be really sad if a neat advance either never comes to pass, or is poorly received because people believe it was the reason for an (likely inevitable) cost increase.

The main issue with cost is whether people think TD was 'worth it'. One of the common complaints of people who don't enjoy their first TD run is that combat was a 'cheesy barroom shuffleboard' system. Having a system like this seems a likely to increase the proportion of people leaving TD feeling it was 'worth it'.

There seems to be one sample table available. Could it be used for Grind at a con before Gen Con? If it passes that test, would there be time available to have one on each of the final rooms at Gen Con, or at least on the final confrontation with the Mind Flayer?

I have to imagine the whole setup would cost less than $1000, so we would be talking around $3000 get it worked into one room per adventure. I would contribute to a kick starter, go fund me, or special token purchase to help fund this without raising prices, as I'm sure many others would as well.

Also, another crazy question, given the number of extra conventions that TD is branching into, isn't there a possibility of a long term set of stable prices or even a slight price decrease?
