Anyone care to guess how many refreshes happened to drop the forum?

Well if you consider that a single SQL server is only allowed to have 32767 concurrent connections and you probably have one server serving up the entire site it probably wouldn't take much

Well, this site is not set up to handle an over load... kind of like gencon on event day! LOL

Well, wasn't planning to be outbid but, I didn't get all the notifications until after 10:00. Well...

My apologies to everyone for taking down the forums It also puts me in a tough situation, because I received a few bids by email and text and PM while the forums were down, but before the deadline. I'm sure no matter what I do it will upset somebody, but I'm thinking I'll accept any from the last few minutes as long as they got in by the deadline. My reasoning is that it would have been hard for others to react to those bids anyways.

On the other hand, this was so popular I'm thinking about trying again for a whole new $8k order. This time I'll probably end up with some 10-packs which I don't mind keeping (I'm not shipping those or flying them to GHC!). Next time around I'll do a different auction style that won't break anything.

Let me work through the final bids and update the first post, then I'll reply there.

Thanks!

OK, I got one bid by text which was already outbid, one by email (Kaledor) which was just raising his 9 PYPs from $114 to $115, and one via PM from henwy bidding $555 on the Orb and $115 on 3 PYPs.

The PM from henwy is the only one that really had much of an impact, which is the Dragon Orb. James Krot was the high bidder before that at $550. Tentatively I'm accepting the bid via PM because of the forum troubles, however I'm open to feedback on whether that is the fair thing to do.

Or have Henwy and James play PvP combat to decide?

First post has been updated. I'll get some PMs out to the winners with your total, and then you can let me know if you want it shipped for $4 extra or delivered at GHC.

I'm pretty sure I'll spin off another one of these auctions with somewhat different rules and we can try this again.

Thanks!

Lots of things could have gone worse. I think this was a good live trial and it did overall succeed due to other forms of communications!

BTW I did text you but I must have had your wrong number or old number! LOL

I think a good brain storm session on what is the best forum to use for a live type auction. Maybe Facebook? Set up an event, let people know here where to go. Face book can handle lots of people posting!

Thoughts?

Yay! super excited to start collecting for real. That was fun albeit a little stressful at the end, but thanks for doing this.

Bummer didn't get a tooth. Hopfully I'll get in on another if you do it.

Not sure if facebook would be any better of a method of bidding. I wonder if there are other tools so you don't have to scrounge the forums for updates, maybe an auto update option.

Here's my thought:

Everyone knew when the auction would end, so if you waited until a minute or two beforehand to try and post a reply and weren't able to get your bid in then tough s++t, your fault for waiting so long. Sorry if I come off like an ass by saying that but people had days to bid on this stuff. You wait until the last second and something goes wrong then too bad. I say you stick with the original rules and James gets the Orb. Note: I don't think any of my bids were impacted by people sniping and I could care less if I was out bid. I got all of the bids in I wanted to about 30 minutes before auction close.

Actually about 15 minutes before auction closing is when my forum started acting up.

If someone else was going for the same item and outbid you, you would have had to jump on again to bid. Just saying!

I should mention, if you choose to pay the $4 for shipping and want to add anything from www.tdtavern.com , you can go ahead and take 10% off of the prices on the website (discount for me not paying shipping and assuming a PayPal Friends & Family payment). Just let me know what you want to add.
