Seth makes some valid points. I've seen similar frustration with new Magic players. The new players quickly get overwhelmed with the powerful cards, various formats and tournaments that Magic offers. However, life is about the young (new) person having fewer resources than their older counterparts. I don't see that changing. However, new players running with new players keeps the game and tokens fresh for them. While we older folks continue to muddle on, we love the friends and nostalgia. As long as the game is fun, exciting and challenging; does anything else deeply matter? Magic is awesome for its competitive nature and complexity. True Dungeon is as fun due to its cooperative nature and simplicity. Very different games, the same fun. What a great gaming combination.

I don't begrudge JimC and Lazlo their turbo-drawing of treasure. They paid a fortune for their artifacts.

But I do have a concern about adding more token-drawing slots. If the average token pull is worth $3 (ignore this year) then your $44 ticket can already earn you more than that in treasure. ($3 x 16 tokens plus completion tokens). See the problem?

We're already at the point where a TD player with max draws is playing essentially for free, and making a minimum-wage profit doing it. If it gets even better, it's totally reasonable for heavy-hitters to buy up every ticket to farm the treasure boxes. That would leave nothing but crumbs for the casual and first-time players who are paying real money to play.

I'd be ok with printing weaker, non-stacking version of the existing treasure-draw tokens that newer players can aspire to, or even tokens that replace a missed stamp, but adding more could kill the golden goose and freeze out the non-farmers who just want to have play for fun. Please, no more treasure slots or *shudder* set bonuses. The max should never go over 16 chips per run for non-artifact owners. Even that's probably too high already.

I fully expect both the Ring of Riches and Charm of Good Fortune to frequently come back into print, I think Jeff always wants to have a token that grants extra treasure coins available for new players to order. I would expect in 2015 when the Charm of Good Fortune goes out of print, that either the Ring of Riches or a new treasure-coin generating Ultra-rare will be in the set. It probably depends if Jeff wants the bonus treasure coin tokens to be on a 4 year cycle (reprinted every two years) or six year cycle (reprinted every 4 years).

That's just an educated guess from comments on the forums :)

I support the stacking charm of plenty

No, I mean transmuting the horn necklace to a charm, then equipping six of them with the charm necklace.

I don't support anymore stacking treasure tokens but it might be neat to see a relic/legendary progression path for one of them.

Thanks for the serious reply.

I'm already lamenting my likely failure to acquire a 54 token draw from the mythical charm of plenty.

Alright, Mike and Disbeelief, you two need a True Dungeon time-out. Stacking token draws is part of the balance issue that I have concerns about. Players giving up important slots to token harvest instead of strengthen their character (and party) is something to be taken seriously. It would be nice to promote the Horn of Plenty out of existence! Jeff could rotate it to an Earcuff or Charm! It would be wonderful to see less farming and more team work. One item that grants three additional tokens (ie Ring of Riches) should be the maximum! Sorry formulites (includes me) but the game needs to focus on the story and adventuring team. Tokens should be SECOND!

I'm just stirring the pot - there has been no louder voice for play balance and token moderation than mine.

Dennis,

As a long time player of Magic I have many of the expensive cards that people seek. I could easily put together decks that cost $3,000 or more. My favorite format of magic? Draft. In TD I have many UR's and I love running with team synergy and other powerful parties. My favorite run is sealed pack though. You don't need expensive tokens (or even a lot for that matter) to enjoy TD just as you don't need a lot of card to enjoy Magic.

I do believe though that the tokens that generate treasure draws has reached the saturation point. Please no more.
