I just realized as I was updating one of my builds that it now has a total of 6 slotless Horn Tokens. That's a lot of Horns clogging up my binders and having to carry with me in the dungeon (because if I try to use one of the powers and a DM askes to see it I have to produce it right?). So how about a Horn transmute of some sort to knock this down to maybe a Horn of Blasting and a Relic level Horn (use the UR Horn from this year and the other Completion Horns). Or lets just combine all 6 Horns. Just a though. And if this happens PLEASE make multiple Potion's of Distilled Healing part of the recipe! Have a glut of those babies laying around.

EDIT - I forgot the Minotaur Horn of Alert. So I have 7 total slotless Horns now.

Monsters are not strong enough to cause you to use potions of healing during combat....

Seeing the idea for more celestial items got me thinking about updating the old set and making a set transmutation path. I added a weapon usable by all so that the set will work for any class. You never have to go beyond a 3 set bonus as both weapons are main hand. Here's my idea.

Add a Celestial Pernach (flanged mace) usable by all. +2 4-9dmg

Bring the Celestial Sword up to +2 remove Keen

Celestial Bracers change from +2AC to +1 DEX +1 STR

Celestial Girdle Change +2 Melee damage to +1 WIS +1 CON (remove immune to fear)

3 piece Set bonus - immune to mental attacks by outsiders (remove the melee)


Transmute Relic level

Saintly Celestial Pernach of Smiting +3

Saintly Celestial Keen Long Sword +3

Saintly Celestial Bracers +2 DEX +2 STR

Saintly Celestial Girdle +2 WIS +2 CON

3 piece Set bonus - imbues Psychic Power, immune to mental attack by outsiders


Legendary Level

Immortal Celestial Pernach of Smiting +5

Immortal Celestial Keen Long Sword +5

Immortal Celestial Bracers +4 DEX +4 STR

Immortal Celestial Girdle +4 WIS +4 CON

3 piece Set Bonus imbues Psychic Power and gain one tier of psychic ability, immune to mental attack from outsiders, character can always be resurrected, cannot be annihilated.

A mace would not be usable by wizards.

+1 each to two stats is fairly weak at the UR level. Compare to Mithral Boots, Mithral Gauntlets, Girdle of Hill Giant Strength, Viper Strike Belt. And that's not counting the two neck slot items (given the neck is generally the strongest slot).

I also am wary of reprinting items with different effects. It seems like a huge headache for the coaches, DMs, and the app developer.

I am also wary about splitting the Set bonus by transmutation level. How does that work if I wore say, one of each? Do I only get the UR level bonus? Get the Legendary Bonus? Split the difference for the Relic bonus? Or no bonus because they don't mix (which is a bad idea and will discourage transmutions)?

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

We just got done with the Redoubt Set transmutes, iI strongly suggest that we do a few years with something different before doing another set focused like that (despite the fact that I'd probably go for it).

Also, you've got something weird going on with your pernache damage. If it is +2 giving 4-9, that means the base weapon would be 2-7, which is strange for TD. If it is usable by all, you'd probably want to treat it more like a club, so it should probably be base 1-6, which at +2 would give you 3-8.

This is a four year cycle. Hopefully it will be extra cool since it is a longer cycle this time. :)

If were planning it this year, and next year has an Underthing adventure I really hope the item is King killer themed. Since we still have a few years of teeth in the pipe we would probably still have time for a story line relic when we finally kill the Mind Slayer.

So - while I don't think we need any more weapons at legendary for a while, what do the Fighter types think of a transmute path to a Vorpal Sword that would auto-kill on a 20 with some pips so long as the monster can't live without a head?

I think it would be good to make the transmute item usable by all, but the Vorpal ability could be reserved for fighters?
