I haven’t seen the obligatory “spell book” or “anything that makes intel matter” suggestions in this thread yet, so I will resurrect an idea from an older post.

Not sure whether it belongs in this thread, but how about creating a “tome” slot that is linked to intelligence, similar to how charisma is linked to figurines? More intel means you can equip more tomes - and I would propose many more at the top intel levels. In game terms, this would represent the knowledge-based advantages that characters of higher intellect can bring to the adventure based on the extent of their readings.

In theory, even the low intel classes could access one or more tomes if they hit the intel minimums. And tomes could be designed that are class specific - imagine spell books for wizards, holy books for clerics and monks, scores for bards, art of war for fighter types, nature guides for druids and rangers, etc. Or location specific books to represent doing prep research in advance of visiting some future adventure locale (imagine equipping Dante’s Inferno to receive fire resistance, for example). Could open up some fun token development and build options for multiple classes. And while I’m putting this idea in the UR thread, I suppose tomes could be a variety of rarities.

Of course the major downside is that tomes are currently slotless, so creating a slot might be a step backwards. That said, I think there are currently only three in the game (Carter’s Tome of Insight, Tome of Recall, and Libram of Looting, not counting GP books), so this might not be too limiting.

And this doesn’t necessarily need to be instead of the excellent spell book ideas discussed elsewhere. I think those ideas could work together.

I would love to see an UR blade that's Rogue-friendly and transmutes up to a Relic, then to a Legendary in the vein of "Loki's Mischievous Dagger" or something. The Legendary could negate all Sneak Attack resistances and stun on a successful sneak attack?

Also, I don't know if this is the right place for this but I had this idea:
Something in the same line as the Rod of Seven Parts, but with a Norse theme: the Sword of Sigurd (or Siegfried). Each piece of the shattered sword could act as a piece of the Rod did, adding +1 to a stat. When reforged, it could be a +1 level and do extra damage to Dragons.

The stun part of that seems way OP.

Monks need a 20/19 to get that effect.

still- Don't stop believing.

Not in my mind :).

In the hands of a Paladin, when the party rolls a saving throw they roll twice and take the higher roll.

I like the roll twice mechanic, but it seems pointless to put it on a bad weapon. First, nobody except paladin would choose this over another UR weapon, and even paladin will just use the ability then switch weapons. Probably better as a different slot for paladin only.

Thematically I love the idea of the Paladin giving up something for the benefit of the party.

In practice we already have Paladins giving up their neck slot item for a 2nd guard. Having them give up another slot does feel a bit limiting to me.
It may be too good as a slotless, even once per game.
Maybe a back slot, so those with brooching can use it and another?
Or a figurine, as a Paladin can already have 2 of those?
Or add it to a new UR shield? Could make for some interesting choices.

Maybe put the reroll ability on a figurine?

If it’s a once per game paladin only item maybe this is better as a rare.

Alternatively, we could improve that weapon stats.

Negate all HP damage from non-targeted attacks

Wow, super strong. Unfortunately, i think negating all the damage is too good. Since a major balancing effect is to use AoE attacks. Maybe half damage?

I was imagining the user would still take full damage from aoe/breath/retribution.

Not sure how to word it if AOE attacks are considered targeted.

If people like the idea and this is too strong 1/2 damage or -5 or something works.

Wait, now i am confused. What did you mean by 'non-targeted attacks'?

Nope - it is I who am confused!

My idea was as you interpreted - the wearer can’t be damaged by attacks that don’t specifically target them.

So, ignore my last past.

As a shield I would be interested, as a figurine I would probably use it, as a weapon I would not be using it. There are so much better options unless that damage stats are improved.

But as a weapon you dont have to use it, just own it...after initiative, 1st round you announce 'free action switch weapon' then attack with whatever you want. It might as well be a slotless item that takes your 1st free action to use.

Well, the Paladin announcing guard counts as their first round free action I believe.

I agree it may not be good enough for a UR. Though we have FoP:Cat, which is better if the first roll succeeds, but also only works for the individual.

I like this idea and I really think there should be something which utilizes the intelligence and wisdom feature for wizards, druids, and clerics.

I like this, perhaps an Int prerequisite as you would need to be crafty

Please no, rogues do not need another sneak attack modifing item that blocks a traditionally damage boosting slot (and we especially dont need one that requires us to give up another slot to boost int).
