With 10 people in a run, you could just get statistically lucky and not get targeted much/at all. If your build is save focused and monsters don't try to hit you, you can usually prance on through. The problem is when you do get targeted. Eric and I were talking about the Marilith from Grind at WYC and the fact is, unless you're pretty optimally set up, not many people can survive 3 hits in one round at 16 HP a pop. Even at 2 hits it takes out everyone below 5th level ranger in HP without HP boosting items or hit/damage negation. We usually do just fine and I don't mind having people with sub-optimal or HC builds in the group. In the past our groups have always had a couple. You should just be aware that there is at least a fair chance of death personally.

Normal should be no gear requirements.
Hardcore with rares+
Nightmare with UR+

granted any difficulty should be playable with any gear, really just depends on how much of a challenge you want :-P

Thanks for the information. I'll seek hardcore groups once the volunteer lists are out.
I do NOT want to be a drag on my group or 'carried', that's not cool. So!

Good luck on these Nightmare + runs!! :silly: :silly:

My perspective: many of us are way over-equipped for Nightmare and having some less-equipped players only makes it more fun/challenging. And for puzzle rooms tokens don't usually matter, and that's usually where we need the most help.

At WYC we breezed through Nightmare with only 3 of us. Later, we did a semi-sealed-pack run with only what was in the token packs plus one other token of our choice. We would have totally got killed if two people (who hadn't done the run yet) hadn't stuck with their normal build. Most of us did die though...

At GenCon we are doing a nightmare run with only 2015 common and uncommon tokens and one 2015 rare. We plan to burn a lot of consumables and most or all of us will die... But we plan to do that on Sunday after we have already done the run normally.

Personally with the current Nightmare TD difficulty I have no problem with a 3 or less people only having 2-4 UR. It makes it a better challenge but as previously stated you "may die"!

Right now I'm looking to be bringing along a number of first/second timers for some runs. One run of 5 and 3 of us interested in a second run. Am I going to have any luck finding pairings for normal runs on the forums in the next couple of weeks, or should I just take my chances with buying random slots and seeing who we end up paired with?

People usually coordinate teams beforehand because they want to run hardcore or nightmare. If you're just running normal there's not much of a point. Anyone you find here for a normal run is likely to be just as newbish (if a bit more diehard even so) than someone randomly sorted into your group. An experienced group could easily beat hardcore on just starter tokens after all.

My son has recruited 4 of his friends to try TD this year. I will be buying out 1-2 runs and looking to fill the other four slots. With 4 rookies we will be thinking normal

Chelsea and I are still interested in joining some other forumites for a couple nightmare runs. She plays druid and I play rogue/ranger.

The other big advantage of forming groups online is knowing your classes ahead of time.

Being able to coordinate and select a higher difficulty is why *most* forumites do it, but far from the only reason.

The only way to be sure of having the class you want is to put out $480 to buy the whole slot and then hope to Hades you can sell out the tickets so you don't have to eat the cost, or at least the 15% restocking fee or whatever it is now.

Did ticket prices go up again? All I know is I had a $2500 visa bill last year just from gencon event tickets. My group ended up eating around $600 in unsold event tickets and restocking fees too.
