TOPIC: Suggestions for 2015

Steve Jackson Games has had good success the past few years with having their Munchkin Tavern off-site. I wonder if the Marriott could host True Tavern as an off-site, alcohol & food serving locale as well? All the volunteers are staying there, anyway.

Thoughts?

There's way too much information to decode the Party Card. When you coach, you get used to it, though. Your brain does the translating. I don't even see the code anymore. All I see is blonde, brunette, redheaded barbarian stats....

Awesome things about True Craft -
In a word, it brought the storyscape to life. NPCs, side quests, mini-games to play.

Less awesome -
Writing on you with Sharpie
Long, long lines to play Simon for an Earcuff. There were two events I just didn't have time to get to because of the lines.

I for one loved it for what it was trying to accomplish, and how it turned the storyscape into a living village. It showed great potential, and I'm sure it would have gotten better year after year. But I'm pretty sure no one wants it to come back exactly like it was that first year. But it would be nice to see it come back in some form so that the storyscape isn't just a ghost town filled with 21st century tourists.

Toran wrote: To clarify, it's not the specific events of TrueCraft that I'm reminiscing about (Hi Divine!). It's there having been an activity and a space where people were hanging out, interacting, and that felt like you could reasonably spend time in that space. I can't imagine sitting in the dark in the 2014-2015 storyscapes for an hour or two hours or whatever. People prefered to make trades in the hallway.

Calvin Fishman (Disbeeleaf's younger son) did exactly that (sit around in the dark for two hours) while waiting for his older brother to do the GT run. It was Wednesday so it wasn't like there were many people hanging around doing nothing and no real trading opportunities either.

And I was like "dude, you could have used that time productively, like move all your tokens from your car to the hotel room instead of just sitting around!" :cheer:

Usually I went out through the closest exit door (which usually was not the in door). No one (including the GenCon guard) ever said anything about it.

Speaking of entrances, one thing that annoyed me a bit was upon entering Hall A, you were supposed to walk along the side of the curtain before entering.

There were times when I was in a rush (usually related to TD volunteering) when I took a "shortcut" by cutting through an opening in the curtains. However I later heard people mentioning that you weren't supposed to be doing that. Still, it seems inefficient requiring players to go out of the way to enter when there is a more direct path! ;)

As long as it's easily found I would be very much down for this. I'd be happy to have a space setup for the TD people to hang again

Whether or not it's against GC policy, I think ticked runs on Weds would be a bad idea. It would dramatically increase the need for volunteers, reduce the time available for training, and also reduce the time needed to work on setting up the rooms. I was worried about the dungeon being ready for the GT runs.

I agree it would probably be not worth it for normal TD runs. Too many logistical hurdles that need to be overcome and moving parts that need to be in place.

However, since Grind is fairly autonomous, with fewer volunteers and different training schedules, it would be more feasible to do Wednesday nights for Grind, assuming TPTB and GenCon are okay with it.

I would be down for a late night (post GT run) Grind event Wednesday. Would be a great start to the convention :)

Maybe we can get an extra 10 Golden Tickets inserted and make a GT version of Truegrind?

That would be interesting. I would think they would have to be different that GT just you know if you are winning a grind or a run. Maybe I am wrong and you let everyone choose...dunno but it is interesting.
