TOPIC: Anyone interested in a six person Hardcore run?

Re: Anyone interested in a six person Hardcore run? 9 years 10 months ago #49

Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the discussion. I can do either the Cleric or a bard, although I think the Cleric seems more needed. This will be my first year playing one however, so... we could die. painfully. I do have some of the key items, like the lenses, the two part eldritch set, and the relic ring of focus, so the healing should be fairly decent if I can memorize those beads well enough. Alternatively, if I play a bard I have both Widseth's and Briano's instruments, so I can contribute either spells or arrows while boosting the party.

I think Cleric is more important. We can all pull our weight and get the +to hit numbers up, but no one can throw those high-end healing spells around like an Eldritch powered, Lenses-enhanced Cleric can.

One trick I've learned about the beads, tho: Don't sweat them. In fact, if you don't want to waste time with guessing, just... don't. Take the lower number and move on.

When you've only got a small party, the important thing is to keep the combat rounds moving, fast. An average fight lasts ~3 rounds, before you run out of time. Odds are we will need 4 to 6 rounds to take down a monster (fewer sliders on the board = need to slide more often, to do the same damage). We will be faster because there's fewer of us, but we still can't waste time.

The best strategy I've seen for this sort of "undermanned" party, is to focus on firepower. The Cleric is there to keep the Wizard from falling over (especially if there's no Paladin) and the rest of us just keep pouring out damage until the monster falls over. Then we heal up when the fight is done.

Obviously, if you've got the Lenses you can do double-duty: healing the Wizard and another party member (whoever just got hit by the monster.) That's gonna be nice :)

If I can manage to get my hands on a full cabal set that would make me even better for the Cleric. I just haven't seen a lot of the cabal items available in people's trade threads.

I can lend you my Cabal set; better on you than on my mule.

On second thought, here's what I have that would be good for Cleric, and won't be using as Monk:
Cabal Set
Templar Set
Shield of Scholar
Greater Holy Symbol (if it does not sell before GenCon)
Earcuff of Energy
Phoenix Figurine
Greater Ring of Focus

If you need or want to borrow any of those, let me know.

Do you guys want to try to meet up Wednesday so I can give you the tickets?

Presumably after the GT runs?

I should be around Wed after the GT, but I might only be around for a short while - I still have to meet up with Incognito and do some True Grind stuff on Wed evening.

If we can catch each other after GT, that's the best. if not, I will try to come early to the run.

I don't have anything scheduled for Wednesday (no GT) so that works for me. Also I have a Cabal set now, but I would love to borrow some of those other tokens. I'm still trying my best to get a few more decent ones just so I have my own copies, but if that fails at least I know I'll have a backup.

Which token are possibly needing to borrow?

Xavon had offered the following which I can use

Templar Set (although I'd only use the Armor and the Helm most likely as I find the Shield of the Scholar to be much better)
Shield of Scholar
Greater Holy Symbol (if it does not sell before GenCon)
Earcuff of Energy

I'm still trying to get (although admittedly haven't tried super hard yet) the Shield of the Scholar, Greater Holy Symbol, and the +2 Sacred Sling for my personal collection as I may be playing the Cleric a bit more than I used to as a tertiary class that always seems to be welcome in pick up groups.
